MHG sees positive outlook for holistic health trend

Miskawaan Health Group or MHG sees room for growth of the holistic health trend in Thailand

as people wake up to health protection amid the PM 2.5 dust crisis and COVID-19. The group is confident that after life returns to normal, people will be more aware and conscious of sustainable healthcare.

Spa and wellness businesses represent one of Thailand's high potential industries. Thailand is also a favourite destination for tourists from around the globe. According to the SCB Economic Intelligence Center (EIC), the Global Wellness Institute (GWI) and Euromonitor International, the global market value of the industry is as high as 320 billion baht, with the Thai market most significant after China, Japan and India.

The Global Wellness Institute (GWI) reported that wellness tourism is likely to grow from 19 trillion baht in 2015 to 27 trillion baht by 2020. The industry provides two main types of services: internal healthcare services, such as individual preventive healthcare consultation, and external health care services, such as beauty spas and anti-aging therapies.

Alternative treatment trend

Dr. Johannes Wessolly, medical director of Miskawaan Health Group (MHG), said that the treatment approach MHG takes is called functional medicine, is backed by scientific knowledge and designed to systematically treat chronic illnesses. The treatment process begins by researching the causes that lead to the disease of each individual, coupled with analysis from a team of medical experts. A treatment and rehabilitation plan is then designed based on the causes in order to provide an effective therapy for those who seek care.

“Clients who complete a comprehensive physical examination will receive a customised dietary plan, including dietary supplements made from 100% natural ingredients to meet their individual needs, and also natural therapy programs tailored to their needs, that could include chelation therapy, multivitamin and mineral IV infusion, ozone therapy, vicorder screening, to name a few.” The key is to combine natural therapy with modern diagnosis to create an effective preventive individualised healthcare plan.

Increasing popularity of natural therapy

Natural healing methods are gaining more attention around the world, including in Thailand. Dr. Wessolly pointed out that it is because the heart of functional medicine is the understanding of the complexity of the human body as a unit of various biological systems. By combining the holistic principle with biological knowledge to take care of body and health, not only will we be able to ensure safe treatment but also improve the efficiency of the immune system without the need to rely on medications or chemical treatments.

“Natural therapy and modern diagnosis are internationally recognised by celebrities all over the world, including Hollywood stars, famous businessmen, professional football players, professional tennis players, and filmmakers.”

Business plan in Thailand

Currently, Miskawaan Health Group has branches in Germany, Austria, Hong Kong, and Thailand, with one on the 11th floor of Gaysorn Tower in Bangkok, and the other on Koh Samui.

For the Ko Samui branch, MHG collaborates with a local resort. The facility consists of 11 beachfront villas on a white sandy beach, designed for ultimate privacy with amenities and various activities such as diving, snorkelling, beach yoga, and more, so that those who seek treatment can be diagnosed and enjoy their vacation at the same time.

Enhancing immunity against COVID-19

Regarding the COVID-19 incident, Dr. Wessolly suggested that everyone be very careful. Having a healthy body and a strong immune system is good, but the bodily systems can always be strengthened and maintained to achieve balance with simple methods such as taking vitamin C, vitamin D-3 and curcumin extract from turmeric to help reduce inflammation.

Treatment should focus on prevention by strengthening immunity. Taking care of oneself regularly and listening to the body to detect weaknesses will help increase the efficiency of the immune system and prevent illness caused by foreign pathogens entering the body. Taking care of oneself and always making sure that the immune system is strong in a sustainable way is the constant essential.
