Pawpongsong, Secretary-General of the Office of the Vocational Education Commission (OVEC), on the occasion of OVEC’s 79thAnniversary.
“The vocational education system, thereby, must be standardised and modernised to build a qualified and professional workforce that can follow prescribed career paths and bring benefits to both the manufacturing and service sectors.”
Since its establishment on 19 August 1941, OVEC has continually promoted vocational and professional training by implementing vocational management to produce a qualified workforce and promote vocational education that meets international standards. Using modern technology in accordance with strategic goals of the country, OVEC has strengthened vocational opportunities for people at all levels by stepping forwards in compliance with government and Ministry of Education policies using four driving principles as follows:
1. To be a systematic learning centre with standards and meet the needs of today’s society.
2. To be a school that produces technical and skilled workforces with vocational experience that meet all
needs of the country.
3. To develop and promote courses adding skills essential for present and future.
4. To have standards that are accepted by society and move forward with cooperation with the general public and private sectors.
OVEC is currently developing 11 modern educational courses, including: Electric Engines for the Modern Automotive Industry; Electronic; Tourism, Hotel, Food and Service Industries; Logistic Transportation; Innovative Agriculture; Industrial Robots; Aviation Industry; Marine Logistic (Naval Commerce); Fuel & Biochemistry; Digital Industry; and National Infrastructure. Graduates of all of these courses are currently sought after by the market.
Regarding unemployment which is now a major problem for the country, Mr. Narong Pawpongsong stated that OVEC graduates never have this problem because they always get a job.
“Some students who are studying and working at the same time can earn some money. Employees who are
working can come back to continue their studies. Graduates of vocational education can earn degrees and meet the further requirements of the country. They are never unemployed.”
