Violinist Bing Han Featured in RBSO Classical Concert in Remembrance of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great
Under the Royal Patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya, the Royal Bangkok Symphony Orchestra Foundation and Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) are delighted to present the RBSO Classical Concert in Remembrance of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great entitled “Germanic Brilliance and Glory”. On Friday, October 9, 2020 at 7:30PM at Thailand Cultural Center, Main Hall, the accomplished violinist, Bing Han from China, will be featured. Also returning from abroad is RBSO conductor Michel Tilkin; this will be his first time back on the podium in Thailand since the onset of Covid-19. The RBSO is looking forward to presenting a program of beautiful Germanic classical music.
The program includes two pieces by prolific German composers. The first, Violin Concerto in E minor Op. 64 by Felix Mendelssohn is probably one of the most well-known and best-loved violin concertos ever written. The composition, which took an unusually long amount of time to complete, 6 years, is a sweet-spirited, three-part concerto featuring a beautiful solo violin. The audience can expect to be taken on a journey of varied melodies and features a soloist playing a series of decorative arpeggios.
Second, the RBSO will be performing Symphony No. 1 in C minor, Op. 68 by Johannes Brahms. Despite declaring to his conductor friend Hermann Levi, “I shall never write a symphony”, Brahms completed four symphonies which became some of the most popular compositions in orchestral repertoire. This particular symphony took him the better part of 14 years to complete. It is classical in structure with big outer movements and more lightweight inner movements.
