OTOP Next Normal 2020 takes markets by storm

The CDD in collaboration with Shopee launch “OTOP Next Normal 2020”, a post COVID-19 online shopping campaign, to expand market channels and standardise community products to meet international benchmarks

OTOP Midyear 2020 Online, the previous partnership campaign with Shopee, from June to August 2020, was successful and helped entrepreneurs boost sales during the COVID-19 pandemic, explained Mr. Suttipong Juljarern, Director-General of Community Development Department (CDD), Ministry of Interior.

Over 500 community shops were selected for the campaign and achieved their sales targets. That was why the CDD decided to continue supporting this online marketing campaign in partnership with Shopee and to debut ‘OTOP Next Normal 2020’ between 11 September and 9 December 2020.

“The COVID-19 pandemic is still having a negative impact on community entrepreneurs but we hope OTOP Next Normal 2020 will not only generate income for OTOP entrepreneurs across the country but also increase the competitiveness of OTOP products to international standards via Shopee’s platform during and after the pandemic,” Mr. Suttipong commented.

During June to August 2019, during the pandemic, OTOP Midyear 2020 online with Shopee reached targeted sales for over 500 community entrepreneurs across Thailand. 

For instance, though Doi Mork Coffee, a group of community entrepreneurs in Chaingrai, did not have tourists or visitors during the lockdown, it had massive online sale revenues from joining the campaign with CDD and Shopee. Moreover, C-Craft Lanna, a curtain manufacturer from Lamphun, that also joined the campaign reached so many online customers that it doubled its revenues during the pandemic compared with its pre outbreak sales record.

Meanwhile, CDD is recruiting more community shops to join the campaign in order to provide more opportunities to sellers and customers alike.
