CMMU Mahidol forges ahead with future of management education

by Dr. Suparak Suriyankietkaew (PhDs)

With today’s highly uncertain and disruptive world coupled with advanced technologies, new forms of management education and business learning require a paradigm shift and transformation. Such new normal practices question our traditional ideologies and conventional theories. Moreover, understanding theories alone may not help our students frame adequate understanding about rapidly occurring changes in marketplaces and real world situations.

At the College of Management Mahidol University (CMMU), we believe that the future of management education must focus on a practical learning approach. Only this can enable students to understand diverse real-life business conditions and enhance the skills and capabilities necessary to succeed in the 21st century. Today, CMMU knows the importance of business, education and society going hand in hand to co-create shared values in management education while remaining socially responsible to all stakeholders and communities in order to create a sustainable future together.

To achieve these meaningful objectives, CMMU has developed two new business-related academic units: (1) Business and Community Relations and (2) Business Excellence. Both units are headed by Assistant Dean Dr. Suparak Suriyankietkaew (PhDs), who intertwines her multiple years of corporate experience and academic knowledge together to develop opportunities for future management education. Both units have been purposefully created with the key mission to advance strategic partnership with various institutions, universities, businesses and stakeholders while supporting an academic excellence and a sustainable management education agenda.

In particular, Business and Community Relations focuses on building long-lasting local and international business networks and industrial engagement through joint strategic initiatives and programs, scholarship and research funding and other business-related academic activities such as CMMU Management Forum, company visits, business case studies and scholarships with our industry partners. For instance, CMMU Job Fair & Management Forum was recently held to support our high-calibre students finding job opportunities during the COVID-19 crisis as well as helping our exclusive reputable business partners meet their job recruitment requirements and enhance their branding. Importantly, the unit also aims to build good relations with the university’s stakeholders and communities through social responsibility. On the occasion of CMMU’s 24th anniversary, the college and faculty underscore their support for the community and society such as by helping vulnerable groups through donations and CSR activities for the Thai Blind People Foundation and the Foundation for the Deaf.

For Business Excellence, the unit aims to seek new opportunities to liaise with various institutes and universities to develop new joint curriculums and special training courses or programs to respond to new market demands and enable life-long learning. CMMU has forged ahead toward educational excellence with academic collaborations with diverse institutes and faculties. For example, CMMU has recently developed a new 4+1 collaborative program with the Cordon Blue Food Business Management Program. Moreover, the university collaborates with the Faculty of Medicine at Siriraj Hospital and Faculty of Medicine at Ramathibodi Hospital to develop joint programs that allow medical students to graduate with another master-level management degree after program completion.

Together with our synergies, we hope to strategically advance future learning and educational excellence, share social responsibility values and gain mutual benefits with our strategic partners, to create a winning society.
