PepsiCo Donates 6 Million Baht to Raks Thai Foundation to Support Environmental Conservation, Water Resources Management and Rehabilitation Project

PepsoCo Thailand, the leading manufacturer, and distributor of food and beverages under PepsiCo brands, including Pepsi and Lay’s potato chips, donates 6 million Thai Baht to Raks Thai Foundation to support their environmental conservation, water resource management, and rehabilitation projects for the eighth consecutive year.

Utilising our expertise in resources management, we adopt our high standards to help protect water resources in the communities contributing to safe access to water for the people.

Mr. Sudipto Mozumdar, General Manager, Indochina Foods Business Unit, said, “We have a clear aim to support sustainable farming for Thai farmers to attain a good quality of life in harmony with the environment as part of PepsiCo’s commitment to sustainable agriculture. PepsiCo has been supporting this water resource development to improve the quality of lives of farmers project for eight years running.”

Mr. Mozumdar added, “The PepsiCo Ruamjai Rak Nam project began in 2013 to support the construction of check dams and reservoirs to rehabilitate watershed forests and promote ecological balance in the north of Thailand. From 2013-2015, we have collaborated with Tambon Makhuea Chae Municipality to roll out the Mae Tib watershed forest conservation project in Lamphun province, comprising 500 traditional and semi-permanent check dams. Then from 2016-2017, we worked with Raks Thai Foundation to create almost 500 check dams for the Mae Chaem watershed conservation project in Chiang Mai province, In 2018 and 2019, PepsiCo Thailand furthered our support to construct more than 100 check dams in three new communities in Lamphun, Chiang Rai, and Phayap provinces, and additionally repaired the Pu Sae check dam in Thung Hua Chang district, Lamphun province.”

Mr. Promboon Panitchpakdi, Board Member and Executive Director, Raks Thai Foundation, said, “Due to the economic and social dynamics of recent years, land use and utilisation of natural resources have expanded at an unprecedented pace. This expansion also comes with a lack of control, resulting in an impact on natural resources, especially the watershed forests. Since 2013, with the support from PepsiCo, we have initiated a CSR project for watershed forest conservation and environmental management in the north. We have been working closely with farmers and communities where we created check dams to improve water resources and alleviate the impact of flooding. The development also results in improved water access for agriculture and consumption, contributing to the betterment of the quality of lives of the farmers in those communities."
