BJC BigC Group donates to Field Hospitals across Thailand to fight COVID-19

BJC Big C Group supports Thai frontline workers and the Ministry of Public Health in the fight against COVID-19 through contributions of BQL fruits (Big C Quality Line) such as cantaloupes, melons, and other fresh fruits in addition to tissue paper, snacks, fresh-baked croissants and drinking water. Big C stores reached out to nearby field hospitals in each province to cover 13 field hospitals, 33 hospitals and 138 screening checkpoints all throughout Thailand.

Mrs. Thapanee Techajareonvikul, Senior Executive Vice President of BJC Big C Group said, “A new wave of UK strain coronavirus stirred panic and spread quickly and widely. As a result, the demand for hospitalisation has increased, and in many provinces field hospitals have been established to accommodate increasing infected cases. We realise how much sacrifice frontline workers have to go through. This donation is to support doctors, nurses, medical staff and the Ministry of Public Health. The items we presented were BQL fruits (Big C Quality Line) such as cantaloupes, melons and other fresh fruits along with tissue paper, snacks, fresh-baked croissants and drinking water. BJC Big C Group has also donated consumer products to 33 hospitals and 138 screening checkpoints. BJC Big C Group along with partners has provided equipment for the establishment of Chulalongkorn University Field Hospital. The donation consisted of 100 sets of mattresses, bed sheets, pillows, towels and blankets to facilitate treatment of patients infected with the COVID-19 virus. We also support the Government measures to help people affected by the pandemic by purchasing directly from farmers.

During this new wave of the pandemic, Big C stores have adjusted the opening hours according to Government guidelines and is working to emphasise preventive measures for COVID-19 to ensure safety of customers by providing registration upon checking in and out of the premises, adding hygiene practices, respecting social distancing, especially at payment checkpoints, waiting in line, going up and down the stairs, as well as providing special payment channels for the elderly, pregnant women, and disabled people. Online ordering, call for shop, drive-through, and personal deliveries are available. Cleaning carts and baskets is done every 2 hours, while restrooms, stairs undergo big cleaning every 2 weeks.”

Mrs.Thapanee concludes that, “In the past, BJC Big C Group has been committed to helping society in all aspects, for example donating more than 51 million baht to Chulalongkorn University’s Faculty of Medicine to fund research into  coronavirus vaccines plus necessary equipment for medical staff such as surgical outfits, masks, cotton swabs and face shields. We put our best effort to help society fight against COVID-19 pandemic and we sincerely hope that we will work together to overcome this pandemic.
