BMA invites people to restore ecosystem towards green metropolis on World Environmental Day

The United Nations designated 5 June every year as World Environment Day and also established the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) to implement environmental activities to encourage awareness on environment among people around the world to jointly take action in environment protection.

Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) by Environmental Department has implemented activities under the World Environment Day Project continuously for 14 years since 2007. The project aims to promote public awareness among all sectors to participate in environmental protection together with world communities. In 2021, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) announced that this year’s observance of World Environment Day will be on the theme of ‘Ecosystem Restoration’.

However, the year 2021 in Thailand still faces the on-going spread of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). Therefore, the BMA, in cooperation with UNEP and network partners, plans to organize online activities under the World Environment Day. The objectives include to campaign for environmental protection and start a trend among all sectors and the general public to become aware of and understand problems that affect environment; and promote public participation among government organizations, private sectors, and the public. This year, the BMA sets the theme of the campaign on “Decade of Restoration towards Sustainable Green Metropolis”.

Activities under the 2021 World Environment Day will be conducted in the form of 360° Virtual Exhibition at www.worldenvironment2021.bangkok.go.th
