Various district offices have created check-in points along Saen Saep Canal

Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is moving forward with the development to further improve landscape along Saen Saep Canal and its branch canals as well as surrounding areas.

Mrs. Silapasuai Rawisaengsun, BMA’s Permanent Secretary, revealed that various district offices have formulated plans to develop and improve landscape of Saen Saep Canal, its branch canals, and the surrounding areas to be a new tourist attraction where people living in the locality can also use for recreational purpose. 

For example, Phathum Wan District Office has improved the area along the Saen Saep Canal walkways at Saphan Hua Chang Pier to be Street Art tourist attraction using murals or graffiti to attract visitors to come and take photos. Vadhana District Office has developed and painted canal-side walkways around Ban Don Mosque Pier so that the people can use for running and exercising. Suan Luang District Office has improved landscape around Ramnueng Pier by constructing walkways along Saen Saep Canal to become a check-in point at Khlong Tan (Tan Canal) and Saen Seap Canal.

The development of Saen Saep Canal and its branch canals covers the areas of 21 districts which can be divided into the following dimensions: Environmental dimension such as waste management, city orderliness, and supervision of water quality; Quality of life dimension such as safety and security in life and properties and traveling convenience; Social dimension such as participation from all sectors and community relationship; and Economic dimension such as tourist attraction development and tourism routes.

In this regard, Mrs. Silapasuai said BMA would like to request a kind cooperation from the public to be part of the efforts in restoring and bringing back good environment to Saen Saep Canal by not throwing waste in public water bodies and not constructing buildings that encroach on canal. For the people who live along the canal, they are requested to improve their accommodations, building, and houses to be well-organized, nice and tidy, and do not discharge wastewater into the canal. This aims to make Saen Seap Canal become beautiful and clean to live up to the status of a major canal in Bangkok.
