Huawei and National Science and Technology Development Agency launch mobile app development online training

Huawei Technologies (Thailand) Co. Ltd., in collaboration with Software Park Thailand under National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), on 31 August 2021 launched its first online The Future of App Industry Training with over 200 applicants to join, a learning platform that aims to enhance digital skill development for motivated digital talents.

This educational project is under the collaboration with Huawei and NSTDA’s long-term plan to create and facilitate learning opportunities in the digital landscape. In 2018, Huawei signed a three-year MOU with the National Innovation Agency (NIA) and NSTDA to stimulate innovation in Thailand’s deep tech startups. In 2019, Huawei signed another MOU with NIA and NSTDA focusing on nurturing Thai digital workforce in the latest ICT digital skills for innovative and sustainable society.

Under the aforementioned initiatives, in February 2020, Software Park Thailand under NSTDA organised “Super AI Engineer” Program and Huawei joining to set up workshop on competency Framework and Qualification Consultant. This workshop highlighted the inception of ICT skills framework not only in the job market today but also for future roles.

In order to further narrow the gap between the need for highly-skilled workforce and the supply from the labour market in Thailand, Future of App Industry Training has been launched to develop digital ecosystems.

The program is looking for young IT students and developers with a keen interest in creating mobile apps and a drive to be part of the country’s digital ecosystem. This opportunity will help to create a strong foundation for a digital talent pool to ensure that Thailand can match the growing demand in the future.

Prof. Sirirurg Songsivilai, Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, said, “Today's activity has a tangible impact in making Thailand’s IT resources ready in terms of quantity and related skills, with the strength to push and ability to enter digital society in a concrete way. The demand for digital talent is very challenging and Thailand views IT personnel development as an important topic. Thank you to government agencies, Software Park Thailand, NSTDA, DEPA, MDES and related organisations, including private sectors like Huawei, a global technology leader, for establishing Huawei Asian academy.”

“We worked together with Software Park Thailand and Huawei Thailand to create an ecosystem of digital and ICT innovations that drives Thailand industry to grow and adapt to the new era,” said Ms. Suwipa Wanasathop, Vice President of National Science and Technology Development Agency. “We are focusing on developing ICT skills in the Thai digital technology developer community to utilise technologies such as 5G, Big Data, AI, IOT, Block Chain and Cloud services to meet market demand. We appreciate Huawei, our partner, for organising this event. We believe that Upskill-Reskill will help make the leap and developments we need as well as creating economic growth, income distribution and opportunities in many industries, including agriculture, medical and tourism, which are the main industries of Thailand.”

Mr. Abel Deng, CEO of Huawei Thailand, emphasised: “In the coming two to three decades, technology progress will bring us into an intelligent world. This trend has been made even clearer during the ongoing pandemic. Like electricity 100 years ago, ICT is extending to every industry on a large scale, becoming a key enabler of social development and innovation. In this process, Huawei will keep supporting Thailand to become the ASEASN digital hub. Through continuous investment in the digital talent ecosystem, we hope to elevate Thailand’s digital workforce scene to support future investment in hi-tech industries.”

Furthermore, in collaboration with both Software Park and Thai Science Park, Huawei plans to arrange more training courses to cultivate Thai talents’ knowledge and skills in the latest ICT areas, including 5G, Cloud and IOT. As digital technologies are essential to improve productivity and efficiency, these trainings and practices are launched to build an ecosystem that facilitates digital development and improves digital and 5G capacities, especially during the post-pandemic recovery process.

As a technology-leading and trusted ICT partner which has maintained a strong local presence in Thailand for 22 years, Huawei is committed to enabling Thailand’s digital future, aiming to drive Thailand to realise its visionary Thailand 4.0 blueprint and become the ASEAN digital hub. Under its mission of “Grow in Thailand, Contribute to Thailand”, Huawei remains dedicated to continuously contributing social values to Thai society. Since 2019, Huawei has invested approximately 180 million baht to launch Huawei ASEAN academy and empower Thailand’s digital talent development. In 2020, 16,500 people were trained through this program. In March this year, Huawei and Eastern Economic Corridor Office jointly opened Huawei ASEAN Academy EEC Branch, with the target to produce 6,000 digital talents within 2021, and a total of 30,000 in the next three years.
