MEA surveys electricity stabilising system

at drainage tunnel under Bang Sue Canal in preparation for potential flood crisis in 2021

Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) led by Wilas Chaloeysat, Deputy Governor, along with Drainage and Sewerage Department, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, proceeded with the on-site survey at the electrical drainage tunnel system under Bang Sue Canal and implemented maintenance and installation of electricity stabilisation at the station.

MEA has presented plans and pre-operated the collaboration among relevant networks to ensure efficient drainage management and solutions in compliance with National Disaster Management Command Headquarters to support operation at Kiak Kai Water Pumping Station, the drainage tunnel under the Bang Sue Canal, and Samsen Kiak Kai Water Pumping Station in Bangkok.

MEA deputy-director stated: “As the state-owned electricity distribution bureau under the directives of the Ministry of Interior, MEA realises the significance of maintaining quality electricity distribution and providing support for emergency outrages in Bangkok, Nonthaburi, and Samut Prakarn.”

For the electricity distribution system at Water Pumping Station, MEA has implemented connections for MEA electricity system management, wiring with SCADA electric control technology and DMS system to automatically distribute electricity to the public. The automated distribution system helps control management, monitoring and pressure control performance analysis, so as to optimise efficiency and safety of electrical distribution. MEA has provided maintenance staff at 10 significant spots, including water pumping stations, drainage tunnels, and underpass tunnels in 492 service areas to ensure high-quality and safe services.

Amid rains and thunderstorms, MEA is concerned for public wellbeing and safety as flash flooding frequently impacts residents living in river basin areas as well as communities outside flood levees along the banks of the Chao Phraya and plains areas.

Should the flood level rise near electrical devices, residents are advised to unplug outlets and move appliances above the flood lines to prevent risk from electrical leakage or damage to electrical appliances. The public should also stay away from billboards, large trees, and unstable constructions located near electricity wires as broken-off tree branches may cause accidents and risks to life and property. Electrical appliances should be monitored and fixed if there is any damage and people should be aware of the dangers of soaked appliances as well as flooding in areas of device installation. Never stand in the water while installing or monitoring electrical appliances for personal safety and property security.

Should damaged wires or electrical appliances be found that are unsafe, please report to MEA Smart Life
