Office of NBTC partners with MIC, Japan, to elevate service development

The Office of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (Office of the NBTC) hosted a Bilateral Meeting with The Ministry for Internal Affairs and Communications, Japan (MIC), in a virtual format on 4 November 2021, to discuss ways to enhance development of broadcasting and telecommunications sectors.

The honourable General Sukit Khamasundara, Commissioner Acting Chairman of NBTC, presided over the opening ceremony and delivered welcoming remarks. This was followed by reciprocal remarks from H.E. SASAKI Yuji, Vice-Minister for International Affairs, MIC, Japan. 

Asst. Prof. Dr. Pakdee Manaves, Deputy Secretary General of Broadcasting Cluster, head of the Thai delegation, chaired the meeting. H.E. SASAKI Yuji, Vice-Minister for International Affairs, led the Japanese delegation. Also present were other executives from both sides. 

The objectives of the meeting included strengthening relations and continuing successful collaborations between the two regulating authorities. The meeting mainly focused on exchanges of knowledge and experiences around policymaking to promote technological advancement in a social context recovering from the impact of the COVID-19. 

The meeting also discussed regulatory challenges and the need to work together to draft a new memorandum of cooperation to define future collaboration in telecommunications, broadcasting, and radio frequency management, and join forces in other international forums. 

The Office of the NBTC shared regulatory updates and current status of 5G development in Thailand by Mr. Notachard Chintakanond, Executive Director of International Affairs Bureau, Office of the NBTC. 

MIC shared experiences promoting 5G use in various sectors throughout Japan by Mr. NAKAJIMA Mutsuharu, Director for Technical Cooperation, International Digital Infrastructure Promotion Division, MIC. Together, the information would make possible drawing up guidelines to drive 5G technology development and applications in Thailand. The Office of the NBTC and MIC agreed to jointly push the case for 5G development in Thailand forward. 

The Office of the NBTC aims to establish and develop further partnership arrangements with MIC, so as to strengthen both organisations’ delivery of high-quality broadcasting and telecommunication services to citizens of the two countries.
