URC Thailand receives Good Environmental Governance Award 2021 from Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand

Striving to make the company more environmentally conscious

URC (Thailand) Co., Ltd, a manufacturer and distributor of Jack’n Jill brand snack products, recently won the Good Environmental Governance Award 2021, presented by Dr. Veeris Ammarapala, Governor of the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand, for two of the company’s facilities located at Samut Sakhon Industrial Estate in Samut Sakhon Province. This recognition highlights URC Thailand’s significant achievements in standing alongside the local community throughout the year and driving progress.

Mr. Wattawut Ueaphumirat, Integrated Supply Chain Director of URC (Thailand) Co., Ltd. said, “Winning the Good Environmental Governance Award 2021 is meaningful to us at URC Thailand as it recognizes the company's excellent business conduct in all aspects of operations. Two of these awards have been given to two URC Thailand plants, plant 4, and 6, both of which are located in Samut Sakhon Industrial Estate. Prior to this, URC Thailand has also been awarded the Good Environmental Governance Award for Plants 1, and 3 in 2018. Moving forward, we are committed to uphold our best practices and ensure that operations continue to meet Good Environmental Governance Standards as a way to live up to our purpose of Delighting Thai consumers with good food choices.”

The evaluation criteria of the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand comprise of 1) Information accessibility and accuracy, 2) People's ability to participate in problem solving, 3) Transparency, 4) Social responsibility, 5) Rule of law legitimacy, 6) Justice principles and returning benefits to society, and 7) Community and factory sustainability and harmony. Throughout the year, URC Thailand has fulfilled these criteria by engaging with the local community and allowing them to be a part of its business.

Last year, the company set goals to become more environmentally conscious and prioritize business conduct, promising better sustainable practices revolving around employees, people and community, climate, water, products, packaging, and sourcing in its business operations under the theme "URGreen," which focuses on three areas: UR Health and Wellness, UR Recycle, and UR Green Industry.

  • UR Health and Wellness strives to develop more high-quality, safe, and healthy food products for the benefit of consumers, as well as improve employees’ quality of life and create a safe working environment.
  • UR Recycle focuses on using recycled-material packaging such as cardboard cartons and corrugated cartons, designing more recyclable packaging, and encouraging employees to sort waste to reduce waste volume and environmental impact.
  • UR Green Industry concentrates on environmentally-friendly production and sustainability by sourcing materials from ecological resources. In terms of manufacturing, the company promises to promote renewable energy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, increase water savings, and boost zero waste to landfill and waste-to-energy efforts, while ensuring compliance with the Ministry of Industry's Green Industry standard and ISO 14001.
