This year’s Mid-Autumn Festival falls on September 10, 2022, and it is one of the most important festivals for Chinese people to celebrate and commemorate the success of reunifying the nation.

ICONSIAM is pleased to present a joyful ambiance during the Mid-Autumn Festival by accumulating a variety of tasty mooncakes from top restaurants under the same roof. Starting at G Floor, Jumbo Seafood restaurant presents traditional mooncakes in 4 flavours including mon thong durian salted egg yolk; mixed nuts salted egg yolk; chestnut macadamia; and yuzu macadamia, and these mooncakes are packaged in a premium box set that is ideal to become a gift for your beloved ones. Kyo Roll En once again has collaborated with the 2-Michelin-starred restaurant Sorn to feature Kyo Roll En X Sorn Mooncake blending Thai and Japanese flavours and present in the chic Treasure Bag. There are also a Premium Box with 8 pieces of mooncakes and a Classic Box with 2 signature and 2 new flavours. Especially, each box also comes with AR technology allowing people to use their mobile phones to scan for seeing the clip “Legend of Mooncake”. Up on the 1st floor, Starbucks invites customers to try its signature mooncakes with the Premium Set including classic and favourite flavours and the latest addition is Starbucks Custard Mooncake Set which is imported directly from Hong Kong. S&P on the 4th floor offers different variations of mooncakes to meet the preferable choices of customers and three new fillings are introduced including mocha almond; Chinese jujube with sweet osmanthus flower tea; and coconut custard lava. 

Kanom pia (Chinese-style flaky pastry) meets mooncake at the “Pia Wai Pra Chan Festival” held at SookSiam on the G Floor of ICONSIAM from now until September 11, 2022. 

Gokjai restaurant is eager to offer pleasant tastes and well wishes to all families during the festive season through the presentation of tasty and authentic mooncakes that have been famous for 80 years. Gokjai is known as the first restaurant in Thailand that introduced mooncakes with durian fillings and carefully selects the best ingredients to make different variations of mooncakes such as less-sweet fillings for health-conscious people. The special filling this year is mixed nuts with Yunnan pork knuckle that has been made for the first time. The ingredients include five variations of nuts; cashew nuts, guay ji, Chinese almond, Chinese black olive, and walnut. The candied wax gourd is also added to enhance the sweetness while roasted white sesame provides a crunchy texture and aromatic flavour. Pork meat from big-sized Yunnan knuckles is specially cooked to get a perfect combination of salty, sweet, and oily tastes. Kaffir lime leaves also enhance the pleasant smell while Chinese orange helps cut the oily flavour. Especially for SookSiam, the restaurant has created the “Jumbo Mooncake” crafted from an ancient wooden block aged over 80 years, and the jumbo-sized mooncake whose diameter is 10 centimetres and weight is one kilogram each has a durian filling with six salted egg yolks. The jumbo mooncake represents a cake that can be shared with the family members to enjoy family reunion time. Gokjai’s other famous fillings for mooncakes are lotus seeds, mixed nuts, black sesames, green teas, and Chinese jujubes. 

Banyan Tree Bangkok comes with two new and unusual fillings of mooncakes this year including mocha caramel, and mango with sweet fish sauce. The mooncakes are presented in a special box that is created to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Banyan Tree Bangkok and the nice box is ideal to become a gift to your friends, family members, and business partners. Popular fillings of durian, mixed nuts, and lotus seeds are also available. Shangrila Restaurant features its authentic mooncake that has been famous for more than 40 years thanks to its thin and light dough yet dense fillings and various flavours. The restaurant’s mooncake is the first of its Cantonese style in Thailand and comes with different variations of fillings such as mon thong durian with double salted egg yolks; lotus seed with single salted egg yolk; lotus seeds; red bean and lotus seed with single salted egg yolk; green tea with red bean; soybean with coconut and pandan leaves; black sesame with single salted egg yolk; and sweet potato. This year’s new addition is yuzu macadamia. 

Kanom Pia Hiab Lee is a pride of Mahachai, Samut Sakhon province and the legendary of its tasty kanom pia pastry has been passed down from generation to generation and from mainland China to Thailand. The shop has been established in 1932 while the making process and the over 80-year-old authentic Chinese recipe remain unchanged. Its traditional kanom pia pastry is available in both bite-sized options and big alternatives with the stuffings of nuts, nuts with salted egg yolk, and wax gourd with salted egg yolk. Kanom Pia Nong Jok Ngo Hang Heng has offered authentic kanom pia pastry for over 60 years. The legend began in the grandparent generation who migrated from mainland China to Thailand and has passed down their ancient recipe of this secret Chinese pastry from generation to generation. The business is now run by the third generation who preserve the traditional making process and the secret recipe to make the very soft texture. The four flavours are now available; kanom pia egg explosion, dice-shaped pastry stuffed with banana, dice-shaped pastry stuffed with soybean, and dice-shaped pastry stuffed with young palmyra fruit and lychee. A must for visitors to Sing Buri province is to try kanom pia pastry at Kanom Pia Mae Sri Muang which has been serving the delicious kanom pia for over a decade. Based on the authentic Chinese recipe, its kanom pia offers fillings including durian with salted egg yolk, red bean, and soybean with salted egg yolk. Another well-known shop is The Heritage which is celebrated for its mooncakes with light and thin doughs and dense fillings handcrafted from premium ingredients. Another must-try tasty treat is its signature ba jang or bamboo sticky rice dumpling with dense fillings of shiitake mushroom, durian, almond praline, salted egg yolk with custard, Thai tea with macadamia, walnut with mixed fruits, and chocolate. 

The festival also presents a wide selection of pastries. Durian lovers will fall in love with kanom pia stuffed with mon thong durian from Kanom Pia Baan Khun Chui. The filling is made from 100-percent, premium mon thong durian and low-fat dough. Another signature product is kanom pia pastry stuffed with sun-dried banana which is the first of its kind in Thailand. Aimed to elevate kanom pia pastry to an international level, the shop uses only health-conscious doughs and diverse fillings are meticulously cooked without the use of sugar, butter, milk, and preservations with health concerns.

Siam Takashimaya on the G Floor also joins in the celebration of the “Mooncake Festival 2022” from now until September 10, 2022, with different flavours of mooncakes from top hotels and restaurants. Bangkok Marriott Marquis Queen’s Park presents contemporary-style mooncakes handcrafted from premium ingredients by chefs of its Pagoda Chinese restaurant. This year’s signature fillings are salted egg yolk vanilla custard in soft texture, malt chocolate Roche, and Earl Grey macadamia orange. Shangri-La Bangkok offers a variety of classic and favourite fillings with premium ingredients and meticulous process that has passed down from generation to generation. Peninsula Bangkok brings in its legendary egg-custard mooncake handcrafted by the chefs of its Chinese restaurant Mei Jiang. The organic egg is only used to make the egg-custard stuffing for the best flavour and health benefit and the sweet treats come with a gift box in lotus pattern containing eight mooncakes. Anantara Siam Bangkok also joins in this year’s mooncake festival with the mooncakes in five fillings. The popular flavour is durian with single salted egg yolk made from premium durian while the original fillings are also available including lotus seed with single salted egg yolk, Chinese jujube with single salted egg yolk, and cream custard. The special addition of this year is chocolate brownie and all mooncakes come with three choices of beautiful boxes. Meanwhile, The Athenee Hotel, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Bangkok launches “Luxury Mooncake Collection 2022” with mooncakes in two choices of luxurious gift boxes with beautiful and meaningful designs. This year’s mooncakes from Thung Thong restaurant come with a special filling of pandan leaves with sweet egg floss and it is the first time that the restaurant has combined bakery fillings and the traditional stuffing of mooncakes called 9 sian that includes 9 imported fruits like date palm. The results are 8 flavours including mon thong durian, durian with single salted egg yolk, mixed nuts, 9 sian, custard with salted egg yolk, pandan leaves with sweet egg floss, rose lychee, and almond coffee.
