Company recently won two prominent eco-friendly awards at the Eco Innovation Forum 2022
Bangkok, Thailand –Johnson & Johnson (Thailand) Ltd., a division of Johnson & Johnson Consumer Health Thailand has received two prominent awards from Mr. Teerayut Wanitchang, the Assistant Minister of Industry, and Mr. Veeris Ammarapala the Governor of the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT), for its environmentally friendly practices at its manufacturing plant in Thailand which supplies products to markets globally.
The multinational company has received the Eco Industrial Town Award in recognition of having made significant progress at the manufacturing site towards zero emission and of its effective environmental management system as well as resource and energy efficiency. It has also received the Eco Factory Award for its commitment to environmental sustainability.
The awards, which were presented on Sept 30 at the Eco Innovation Forum, marks a progress of the company’s efforts in improving its end-to-end impact as part of its Healthy Lives Mission. (#HealthyLivesMission).
The plant of Johnson & Johnson Consumer Health Thailand run by Johnson & Johnson (Thailand) Ltd. at the Lad Krabang Industrial estate manufactures products such as Listerine®, Johnson’s Baby®, Neutrogena®, and Tylenol® for sale in Asia-Pacific, Europe, and North America.
“Our Thailand team is very humbled by this recognition,” said Mr. Ravi Bordia, General Manager, Johnson & Johnson Consumer (Thailand) Ltd.
“We have deployed various #HealthyLivesMission initiatives at our Thailand manufacturing since last year. An on-site solar panel system (with the size of three football fields) with an annual capacity of 4,147 MWh has been installed at the rooftop of one of our office buildings, along with an AI-chiller plant that optimizes energy consumption. This system has enabled us to run our production lines with renewable energy and reduce our overall energy usage and CO2 emissions,” said Ms. Veeraya Kaewwilai, Senior Operations Director Thailand Site.
The awards reflect the critical role that manufacturing sites play in advancing sustainability and environmental causes, the company says.
Johnson & Johnson Consumer Health Thailand’s plant is the largest digitally integrated solar panel installation in the company’s global network, Mr. Bordia said.
“The company has collaborated with the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT) in the IEAT 4.0: Smart Eco Industrial Estate initiative since --- as a reflection of our commitment to Thailand’s 4.0 sustainability strategy,” Mr. Bordia said.
“With this commitment, we have incorporated the best technologies and investments into Thailand to comply with the ESG requirements as well as integrating sustainability into our operation plans to align with our long-term business growth and minimize environmental risks for our stakeholders,” Mr. Bordia added.
Johnson & Johnson has built over 50 on-site renewable energy systems on properties in 14 countries. At the end of 2022, over 54% of the company’s global electricity came from renewable sources.
“This is just the start of our journey. We will continue to advance our #HealthyLivesMission in Thailand to create a healthier planet while building resilience of our business. For example, we intend to initiate Phase II installation of the solar system which has an annual capacity of 1,826 MWh”, says Khun Veeraya.
Our goal is to achieve 100% renewable electricity powering our operations by 2025 and reach carbon neutrality at our site operations by 2030. We are moving forward with an expansion plan that will eventually bring our CO2 reductions at the site to about 4,500 tons annually,” Khun Veeraya explained.
