A dual education program for High Vocational Diploma students creates opportunities for local specialists to serve the rapidly growing rail transport network in Thailand

Siemens Mobility Limited, a German rail innovation and technology company and leading global provider of sustainable rail solutions, has been supporting Bangkok’s development for more than 28 years with railway solutions such as the BTS Green Line, the MRT Blue Line, and its extension, and others. Recognising the need of education and the development of quality workforce, Siemens Mobility started collaborating with various agencies, including the Office of the Vocational Education Commission (OVEC), since 2013 to create a dual education program to develop the professional skills of High Vocational Diploma students across various colleges, creating professional manpower to support future jobs.

Mr. Tomasz Mazur, CEO of Siemens Mobility Limited in Thailand, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for Cooperation on February 9, 2023, with Acting Second Lieutenant Thanu Wongchinda, Secretary-General of OVEC, and the Center for Dual Vocational Education, to collaborate on a dual education program for High Vocational Diploma students for the next three years starting in 2023. The selected candidates will have the opportunity to learn new technologies from Germany and maintenance processes through a seven-month practical training program which includes rotation across the various departments of Siemens Mobility’s projects such as the BTS SkyTrain, MRT, and Airport Rail Link. Trainees will also receive employment welfare benefits, personal safety equipment, and possible job opportunities after their graduation.

This year marks the 19th anniversary of Siemens Mobility's establishment of a dual education program in Thailand, while also marking the 10th anniversary of OVEC and Siemens Mobility's continued collaboration. According to Mr. Mazur, "This dual education initiative has been extended to include all Thai technical institutions under the signed memorandum of understanding. Our mission is to provide scholarships to more students in need because we recognise the value of diversity in society. We believe that this initiative offers strong career possibilities for students who engage in the project, including building a group of local specialists to serve the rapidly growing rail transport network in Thailand.”
