Shrewsbury International School Bangkok, Riverside’s First-Ever Junior School Film Festival

Shrewsbury International School Bangkok, Riverside, recently hosted the school’s first-ever Film Festival where the exceptional film-making talents of the Year 4, 5, and 6 students were on display. As a part of the student’s curriculum, varying aspects of film-making were integrated and taught as a means of developing skills that surpasses the traditional classroom and lend themselves to ‘whole-self’ education that resonates with all Shrewsbury schools.

The event took place at the Riverside Campus’s Memorial Hall where students, parents, teachers, and esteemed judges gathered in their finest to celebrate the exemplary works of cinema by groups of Junior School students that worked together to create their original films that were submitted for judging by a lineup of directors, actors, and writers with direct experience in the film and entertainment industry.

In the spirit of real-world award shows, the Film Festival doubled as a means of showcasing student achievements in a non-traditional setting that differed from sports competitions, music recitals, or drama performances as not all students might not fall into traditional extracurricular archetypes and having a platform that recognises their contributions is an incredible opportunity to empower and celebrate our student body.

With seven award categories in total, the Film Festival was more than just honoring the recipients of each award but was a culmination of all the hard work and dedication that all Year 4 - 6 students displayed throughout their endeavor into the world of film-making. Overall, it was a superb event that conveyed a ‘Shrewsbury Education’ that encompasses the pursuit of academic excellence and heeding the call to one’s personal passions - this is what Shrewsbury International School Bangkok, Riverside aims to provide and equip our students with as they will graduate being well-rounded, global citizens ready to take on whatever challenges that come their way.
