Mineré Introduces Thailand's First-Ever Eco-Friendly rPET Bottle in the Drinking Water Category

Mineré Collaborates with 7-Eleven and GC YOUTURN to Launch the "BOTTLE MADE FROM BOTTLES" Campaign, Promoting Recycling

Mineré, the natural mineral water brand under Nestlé (Thai) Ltd.'s Water Business Unit, is making a significant stride in the Thai drinking water market with the introduction of the "Mineré Eco-friendly rPET bottle" (Recycled Polyethylene Terephthalate) made from recycled plastic. This innovative bottle has received certification from Thailand's Food and Drug Administration (FDA), ensuring that it meets stringent quality, safety, and cleanliness standards. It has also been certified to comply with plastic resin standards by the FDA in the United States. The launch reinforces the concept of "BOTTLE MADE FROM BOTTLES", emphasising the recycling process that continuously transforms used bottles into new ones, closing the loop and preventing plastic waste from ending up in landfills, water resources, and the ocean. Moreover, it helps to reduce carbon emissions. This initiative aligns with Mineré's goal of transitioning all its packaging to 100% recycled rPET plastic by 2025 and supports the policy of Thailand’s Pollution Control Department.

Mineré is thrilled to partner with 7-Eleven and GC YOUTURN for the "BOTTLE MADE FROM BOTTLES" campaign, inviting environmentally conscious young individuals to participate in sorting used plastic bottles for recycling into pristine Mineré eco-friendly rPET bottles that are safe, clean, and entirely free from impurities. Individuals can contribute by bringing their used plastic bottles to the designated Mineré recycling drop-off point at 50 participating 7-Eleven stores throughout Bangkok, starting today and continuing until August 31, 2023.

Mr. Victor Seah, Chairman and CEO of Nestlé Indochina, stated, "This year, our focus is on our 'Good for You' strategy to provide the high quality food and beverages, as well as 'Good for the Planet' initiatives that drive positive actions for the world. The introduction of the Mineré eco-friendly rPET bottle is a significant step in Nestlé Thailand's sustainability efforts, ensuring that our packaging is designed for recycling while reducing the use of virgin plastics by one-third by 2025. These initiatives are in line with Nestlé's global ambition as we work together to achieve Net Zero by 2050."

Mr. Pinsak Suraswadi, Director-General of the Pollution Control Department at the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, commented, "Plastic waste poses a significant threat to our environment. To address this issue, the Pollution Control Department has developed an action plan for effective plastic waste management. Our goal is to ensure that by 2027, all types of plastic bottles are no longer disposed of in landfills but are instead 100% recycled. Therefore, the introduction of Mineré's eco-friendly rPET bottle represents a remarkable milestone for the drinking water manufacturing industry, aligning with the closed-loop principle of packaging. I am pleased to see the commitment of the private sector in piloting this practice by encouraging the return of more PET bottles to the recycling process."

Ms. Naritta Vipulyasekha, Business Executive Officer – Water Business Unit, Nestlé (Thai) Ltd., expressed her enthusiasm, stating, "Mineré is a world-class natural mineral water brand dedicated to promoting full packaging circularity. We are delighted to introduce Mineré mineral water in eco-friendly rPET bottle made from recycled plastic. This initiative caters to the needs of environmentally conscious consumers and aligns with Nestlé's global goals. The eco-friendly Mineré rPET bottle embodies the 'BOTTLE MADE FROM BOTTLES' concept and is perfect for the lifestyle of the new generation. Crafted from high-quality recycled plastic resin, the Mineré rPET bottle utilises state-of-the-art technology to sort, shred, and melt plastic into a pristine bottle that meets international cleanliness and safety standards mandated by the Thai FDA, with plastic resin certified by the US FDA. Thai consumers can now enjoy the benefits of fresh, natural mineral water in a new bottle that is clean, impurity-free, and eco-friendly."

In addition to ensuring that all Mineré packaging components, including bottles, caps, and labels, are designed to be 100% recyclable, Mineré is taking a pioneering step in the drinking water market by introducing rPET eco-friendly bottles, further reinforcing its commitment to sustainable packaging. This initiative will contribute to an 80% reduction in energy consumption and up to a 24% decrease in greenhouse gas emissions compared to bottles made from virgin plastic. The new rPET eco-friendly bottles will help eliminate over 1,200 tons of plastic waste, equivalent to the weight of approximately 7,000 whales. Moreover, the Nestlé Waters Business Unit in Thailand is actively engaged in promoting the proper collection of used PET bottles through its participation in the "Packaging Recovery Organisation Thailand Network”, or "PRO-Thailand Network." This collaborative effort involves stakeholders from the public and private sectors, as well as civil society, working together to drive sustainable packaging management.

The Nestlé Waters Business Unit in Thailand has partnered with 7-Eleven and GC YOUTURN, the leading plastic waste management platform, to launch the BOTTLE MADE FROM BOTTLES campaign. This initiative involves installing Mineré recycling drop-off points at selected locations where consumers can deposit their used plastic bottles. These bottles are then collected and transported to a recycling plant for cleaning, sorting, shredding, and melting, resulting in recycled plastic resin that is used to produce clean and safe Mineré rPET bottles, free from impurities. Everyone can contribute to sustainable improvement by bringing their used plastic bottles to the designated Mineré recycling drop-off points at 50 selected 7-Eleven stores in Bangkok, starting today and continuing until August 31, 2023.

"The introduction of the new Mineré eco-friendly rPET bottle will contribute to reducing packaging waste and closing the loop of plastic bottles by enabling their recycling to create new packaging in a continuous cycle. This offers significant benefits for our planet, including lower carbon emissions, energy and resource conservation, and reduced plastic waste. These efforts align perfectly with Nestlé's goal of making all Mineré packaging 100% rPET by 2025. Consumers can play a role in sustaining the planet by choosing Mineré mineral water in eco-friendly rPET bottles and ensuring their proper disposal for further recycling," concluded Ms. Naritta.

Mineré encourages the new generation to make a positive impact on our planet with a Perfect 10 Score simply by purchasing Mineré in the new eco-friendly rPET bottle made from recycled plastic, now available at convenience stores and supermarkets nationwide.
