Minister of Commerce Inaugurates Smart Logistics Expo at BITEC

Fostering global logistics connectivity, cultivating 4-billion-baht trade volume

Mr. Jurin Laksanawisit, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce, led the inauguration ceremony of TILOG – LOGISTIX 2023. The event, hosted in Hall 98 at BITEC, saw the participation of distinguished guests including Mr. Ekachat Seetavorarat, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Commerce, Mrs. Varaporn Dhamcharee, Managing Director of RX Tradex, and a cadre of executives from the Ministry of Commerce and various logistics agencies.

During the event, Mr. Jurin highlighted that TILOG – LOGISTIX represents a collaborative effort between the Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP) and RX Tradex. This 6th edition marks the triumphant return of a full-scale physical gathering following the challenges of the COVID era. Recognising the pivotal role of the logistics sector in propelling Thailand towards developed nation status, the government has prioritised the sector's advancement. This includes: 1. Development of robust logistics systems, 2. Infrastructure enhancement, 3. Strengthening of industry players' capacities and global presence, and 4. Facilitating collaborations to link Thailand's economic corridor with neighbouring nations for the nation's future prosperity.

"In February, I led a delegation of Ministry of Commerce executives and Thai entrepreneurs to the United Arab Emirates to ink a pivotal MOU. This partnership with DP World in Dubai, with its extensive network spanning 78 ports and 240 airports across six continents, positioned us at the strategic crossroads of a global logistical network. This MOU significantly augments Thailand's logistical capabilities, poised to elevate the value of Thai exports in the times ahead."

Thailand's standing has surged to 34th among 139 countries in the latest Logistics Performance Index (LPI) released by the World Bank, further securing its place as the 3rd-ranking nation in ASEAN with a score of 3.5 (out of 5) points – the highest since the World Bank's inaugural ranking in 2007. These accomplishments underscore Thailand's logistics potential and its preparedness to serve as a conduit to the ASEAN region and beyond.

Embracing the theme "Smart and Green Logistics for a Sustainable Tomorrow," TILOG – LOGISTIX 2023 aligns with the trend of adopting next-generation logistics technologies to champion environmental preservation. With the participation of over 167 companies, collectively operating 335 booths, the event anticipates hosting more than 200 business-matching sessions and welcoming over 9,000 visitors. Spanning August 17 to 19, the expo is projected to generate trade worth over 4 billion baht.

Ms. Natiya Suchinda, Deputy Director-General of the Department of International Trade Promotion at the Ministry of Commerce, emphasised the Department's commitment to empowering Thai logistics service providers and facilitating their global outreach. Additionally, the Department seeks to establish Thailand as a pivotal regional logistics hub. TILOG – LOGISTIX 2023 presents an assembly of 415 exhibitor brands from 25 nations, showcasing an extensive array of services and technologies. These include logistics solutions from global service providers, cutting-edge product sorting and transportation technologies, innovative packaging solutions, intelligent and eco-friendly warehouse management systems, streamlined IT and e-Logistics platforms, efficient route planning systems to optimise time while minimising vehicular fleets, solar-powered warehousing solutions, electric forklifts, multidirectional product-picking robots, cloud-based logistics management systems, online logistics platforms, and more.

Mrs. Varaporn Dhamcharee, Managing Director of RX Tradex, invited attendees to join the TILOG – LOGISTIX event until Saturday, August 19, 2023, at BITEC's Hall 98, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
