SHAPE APAC 2023: Building Resilient Asia-Pacific

Youth leaders unite to foster regional resilience at SHAPE APAC 2023.

In the face of a "polycrisis," the Global Shaper Bangkok Hub recognises the need for action and collaboration across nations and regions. This drove their decision to host SHAPE APAC 2023, a three-day event aimed at fostering collaboration, innovation, and resilience in the Asia-Pacific region, held from September 22nd to 24th. With the theme "Rebuilding a Resilient Region," the conference brought together 178 passionate Shapers representing 70 hubs across 30 countries.

SHAPE APAC 2023, a three-day event aimed at promoting collaboration, innovation, and resilience in the Asia-Pacific region, took place from September 22nd to 24th. Under the theme "Rebuilding a Resilient Region," the conference brought together 178 dedicated Shapers from 70 hubs across 30 countries.

The conference kicked off with a focus on reconnecting Shapers after an extended break. Highlights included an opening address by the World Economic Forum, setting the stage for discussions on understanding and addressing complex global challenges. The evening concluded with a picturesque Chao Phraya Cruise networking session, offering participants a delightful experience of Bangkok and an informal setting for further connections.

Day 2 was about re-inspiring attendees with diverse experiences:

  • Track 1: Energy & Food Security - One group tackled pressing Energy & Food Security issues, visiting SCG and Simummuang markets to gain insights into sustainable practices.
  • Track 2: Tourism & Creative Economy - Another group explored the dynamic world of Tourism & Creative Economy with a visit to TCDC, featuring a tea tasting workshop and a thought-provoking panel discussion on the critical role of a creative economy.
  • Track 3: Wellness & Healthcare for All - The third track ventured to Patom Organic Living, immersing themselves in wellness practices and holistic healthcare.

The day concluded with a cultural gala dinner, where participants celebrated their diverse cultures by wearing traditional attire. A world cafe session showcased successful projects from hubs worldwide, fostering cross-hub initiatives and learning from both successes and mistakes, strengthening the bonds formed during SHAPE APAC 2023.

The final day centred on participants' engagement in outdoor activities as they visited Suan Sampran. These activities encompassed rice planting, tea tasting, mastering the art of crafting Som Tum, and immersing themselves in local culture and traditions.
