The 69th edition of the Bangkok Gems and Jewelry Fair, a prestigious event that underscores Thailand's position as a global leader in the gem and jewellery industry, was inaugurated in grand style at 14:00 hrs. on February 21, 2024, at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center. The ceremony was honoured by the presence of Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya, who graciously presided over the opening. This significant event was jointly organised by The Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP) and The Gem and Jewelry Institute of Thailand (Public Organisation) or GIT.
Distinguished guests included H.E. Mr. Phumtham Wechayachai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce; Mr. Napintorn Srisunpang, Deputy Minister of Commerce; Mrs. Nuntawan Sukuntanaga, Chairman of GIT; Mr. Phusit Ratanakul Sereroengrit, Director-General of DITP; and Mr. Sumed Prasongpongchai, Director of GIT, along with ministry executives, officials, and representatives from related private organisations.
Highlighting the event, Her Royal Highness showcased her support by participating in a jewellery fashion show, cutting the ceremonial ribbon, and visiting the "Heirlooms of Elegance" exhibition. This exhibition, a collaboration between SIRIVANNAVARI by Creative Director HRH Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya and Beauty Gems, displayed a high jewellery collection inspired by the Princess's artistic vision, aiming to inspire a new generation of designers and emphasise the excellence of Thai craftsmanship in the global market.
H.E. Mr. Phumtham Wechayachai remarked on the significance of the fair, noting it as one of the top five gems and jewellery fairs globally, the largest in Thailand, and the longest-celebrated in Asia. He highlighted the fair's comprehensive showcase, spanning the entire supply chain and offering unparalleled business networking opportunities for Thai and international entrepreneurs. With participation from up to 1,100 companies and 2,500 booths, the fair is expected to attract over 40,000 visitors and generate more than 3.3 billion Baht in trade value.
