Overcoming Thailand's Population Crisis: A Strategic Workshop

Varawut Silpa-archa, the Minister of the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security (MSDHS), announced that the MSDHS is hosting an event to address its urgent agenda through a workshop titled “Enabling Thai Family Stability in Overcoming the Population Crisis."

This event is scheduled for 7 March 2024 at 08:00 hours at Plenary Hall 1, Queen Sirikit National Convention Center. The workshop aims to present the emerging issues that Thailand expects to face over the next 5-10 years, including the transition to a complete aging society and the annually declining birthrate. It will be organised into five categories focusing on children and youth, the working group, senior citizens, disabilities, and the ecosystem of Thai family stability.

The Minister further stated, “The purpose of the conference is to raise awareness among Thais, Thai society, the government sector, and the public about the societal threats expected in the next 5 to 10 years, as well as their vast impacts on society, the economic landscape, and livelihoods. The findings from the five respondent groups at the workshop will be summarised in a white paper and presented to the government on Family Day in early April, and to the Commission on Population and Development at the United Nations in New York at the end of April. This will highlight the progress of the implementations undertaken to address the aging society issue in Thailand to the world.
