Bangkok Simulates Shooting Incident to Enhance Disaster Preparedness

Mr. Supakrit Boonkhant, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), presided over the opening ceremony of a project aimed at enhancing medical readiness for future disasters at the Asiatique The Riverfront Shopping Center. He emphasised the importance of preparedness in the face of potential disasters in the year 2024. The initiative involves simulating a shooting incident scenario at the shopping centre located in the Bang Kho Laem District. This exercise serves to review and refine disaster response plans based on past experiences, defining roles and responses for all involved stakeholders.

The project, in collaboration with various network partners, is scheduled to mobilise resources and conduct training exercises throughout the fiscal year 2024. These exercises aim to practice medical action plans tailored to respond effectively to diverse disaster scenarios. Specifically, in 2024, operational training will focus on responding to a simulated shooting situation at Asiatique The Riverfront Shopping Center, Bang Kho Laem District. The utilisation of the Incident Command System (ICS) ensures clear communication, organised operations, and efficient assistance to injured individuals. Furthermore, it enables an evaluation of the collective readiness and potential to handle such emergencies, leading to the development of comprehensive disaster response plans. Ultimately, these efforts are designed to systematically strengthen Bangkok's emergency medical service system.
