Thai-Belgian Bridge Signage Refreshed for Milestone Anniversary

Celebrating 155 years of Thai-Belgian relations, the iconic bridge's new signage symbolises enduring friendship and cooperation.

In 1988, Belgium gifted Bangkok with the city's first flyover bridge, a welcome symbol of the friendship between our two countries to combat the congested traffic.

As part of the celebrations for the 155th anniversary of our bilateral relations and the 35th anniversary of the bridge in Bangkok, the signage on the bridge was recently renewed by the Embassy of Belgium.

The new signage has been made possible thanks to the support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belgium, the cooperation of the BMA, and the contribution of many private sponsors.

This change – designed to last – marks the conclusion of our anniversary celebrations that began in 2023. As an Embassy, we will, of course, continue to work every day to strengthen and enhance the bilateral relations, with the support of many Thai and Belgian citizens, our academics, the business community, and cultural actors.

You will learn more about the history of the bridge that was inaugurated by HRH Princess Sirindhorn and built in only about 56 hours. Read the interview with the former Ambassador Patrick Nothomb and Mr. Chavarat Charvinakul in this informative article from the Bangkok Post written in 2018.
