"Think of making merit, think of BKK Food Bank Centre."

People who give are full of merit, and people who receive appreciate it.

Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok, inspected and chaired the transfer of assistance through the BKK Food Bank Centre, Phra Khanong District, at the BKK Food Bank Centre Room, 1st Floor, Phra Khanong District Office.

He stated that the various items donated to the BKK Food Bank today will go to vulnerable groups in the Phra Khanong area, registered by the district office. BKK plans to expand the BKK Food Bank to all 50 districts in the future.

BKK Food Bank Centre Phra Khanong District is one of four pilot districts in Bangkok (Huai Khwang District, Bang Khun Thian District, Bang Phlat District, Phra Khanong District), a collaboration between Bangkok and related network partners to address the problem of excess food that may cause environmental and economic damage. It aims to deliver food to those in need, including vulnerable groups, the urban poor, or those affected by emergencies and disasters. This initiative creates a sustainable mechanism for transferring assistance between donors and recipients, aligning with 9 policies in 9 "good" categories: good environment and good management. The details are as follows:

  1. Food Surplus: Operated in collaboration with Scholars of Sustenance: SOS Thailand since 22 August 2023, three days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday). Food is delivered to vulnerable groups in community areas established by Bangkok Metropolitan Administration regulations, covering 45 registered communities and another 15 unregistered communities, field staff of the Phra Khanong District Office, and underprivileged students in the fiscal year 2024. The operational goals were 139 instances, with 81 completed (58.27%). In total, food was delivered to 3,399 people or 14,116.03 meals, with an excess food weight of 3,361.02 kilograms, equivalent to 8,503.39 tonnes of carbon dioxide (TCO2e).
  2. Food Donation: Food is delivered to vulnerable groups in collaboration with local entrepreneurs such as Wat Wachiratham Sathit Worawihan and Wat Dhammamongkol Thaobunyanon Phra Wihan. The target groups include vulnerable groups in 45 registered communities, 15 unregistered communities, field workers of the Phra Khanong District Office, underprivileged students, and children in the Nirun Villa Village Preschool Child Development Centre. Since March 2023, the operation has provided cooked food, dry food, survival kits, etc. A total of 794 people have received assistance since the start of operations.

BKK Food Bank Centre Phra Khanong District is located on the 1st floor of the Phra Khanong District Office and is open every Thursday from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., having delivered food to a total of 40 vulnerable groups (with 2 walk-ins) from a target of 99.

Recording information on receipts and donations will be managed through the system of the Bangkok Social Development Office, pending training on methods and procedures for recording information simultaneously in all four pilot districts.
