Thai Students Excel on the Global Stage

Chulalongkorn University hosts a world-class business case competition: gathering 20 top-tier universities from around the world, empowering tomorrow’s leaders, sharing business experience with Thailand’s Top Executives.

Students from Bachelor of Business Administration (International Program), Faculty of Commerce and Accountancy, Chulalongkorn University, are proud to host the prestigious Chulalongkorn International Business Case Competition (CIBCC) 2024. This event showcases the capabilities of one of the world’s leading business education institutions. It will feature 20 top universities from across the globe, presenting innovative business strategies and creative ideas ready for practical implementation under the theme “A World-Class Business Competition: Empowering Tomorrow’s Leaders,” from May 20th to 26th, 2024.

Celebrating its 10th anniversary, this year’s competition is held in two locations: Bangkok, Thailand's economic and tourism hub, and Rayong, the country’s leading industrial centre with the highest GDP in Thailand.

The warm welcome speeches were given by Ms. Supamas Isarabhakdi, Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation, and Prof. Wilert Puriwat, President of Chulalongkorn University.  

Participants gained firsthand experience in business consulting from Thailand's top executives, including esteemed business leaders, Ms. Jareeporn Jarukornsakul, Chairman and CEO of WHA Corporation PCL, and Ms. Caroline Murphy, President - Sales and Business Relations of Siam Piwat Group, also participate in this event.

Ms. Supamas Isarabhakdi, Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation, expressed her delight and admiration for students from Chulalongkorn University’s Bachelor of Business Administration (International Program) for organising this esteemed international business case competition. She expressed that this set a role model for excellence in leveraging economic development through education. This aligns with the ministry’s goals of fostering knowledge, innovation, and economic development through student-centred initiatives aimed at the happiness and well-being of students throughout their academic journey and after graduation. She envisions MHESI as a ministry that drives the economy, generating revenue for Thai citizens through knowledge and innovation, and being a reliable source for the country's economic development.

Prof. Wilert Puriwat, D.Phil. (Oxon), President of Chulalongkorn University, emphasised that the Chulalongkorn International Business Case Competition 2024, hosted by students from Chulalongkorn University’s Bachelor of Business Administration (International Program), offers Real Case, Real Business learning from Real Experience internationally. This reinforces Chulalongkorn University’s vision to be the gold standard of educational institutions in the form of a Global Business School with diversity and inclusivity of global citizens. Chulalongkorn University aims to become a top-ranked destination for students worldwide and to grow quality individuals with knowledge and business experience through learning opportunities certified at national and international levels.

Moreover, Ms. Jareeporn Jarukornsakul, Chairman of the Executive Committee and Group CEO WHA Corporation PCL, highlighted that in the past few years WHA Group has envisioned being a creator of prosperity, employment, and income for people and society to achieve better well-being and a brighter future in every area where WHA expands. This year, WHA Group announced the mission, "WHA: WE SHAPE THE FUTURE," aiming to shape sustainable futures for Thailand through four business sectors: logistics, industrial estates, utilities and power, and digital solutions. 

Ms. Caroline Murphy, President - Sales and Business Relations of Siam Piwat Group, stated Siam Piwat’s game changing success in building global destinations that strengthen Thailand’s position as a must-visit tourist destination in the world. She shared insights into the competitive landscape of Thailand's tourism industry and how Siam Piwat has forged ahead as A Creator of World-class Experiential Destinations to attract millions of tourists worldwide to Thailand.

Co-chairs Mr. Pun Therdsteerasukdi and Mr. Suppakit Pinratsuwan detailed that this year's CIBCC, celebrating 10 years of CIBCC, collaborates with WHA Corporation PCL, Siam Piwat Group, and many top-leading companies to organise CIBCC 2024. This competition features 20 leading universities from 13 countries/economies, proposing ideas, creativity, innovation, and business strategies that are tangible and implementable under the theme “A World-Class Business Competition: Empowering Tomorrow’s Leaders" from May 20th to 26th, 2024. This year marks the first edition to be held in two locations: Bangkok, Thailand's economic and tourism hub, and Rayong, the country’s leading industrial centre with the highest GDP in Thailand. In this competition, contestants have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the business consulting industry through seminars from Thailand’s leading executives.

Participants from the 20 universities will also visit the industrial estates that house factories of leading global brands owned by WHA Corporation PCL, as well as world-class shopping malls, which are major tourist attractions managed by Siam Piwat Group. These experiences will be integrated into team analyses to develop business strategy plans to be presented to senior executives of WHA Corporation PCL and Siam Piwat Group.

Chulalongkorn International Business Case Competition 2024 (CIBCC 2024) is divided into two rounds and four divisions. The first round involves teams presenting their work based on a case provided by Siam Piwat Group, with an 8-hour preparation duration. The second round involves presentations based on a case provided by WHA Corporation PCL, with a 24-hour preparation duration. Scores from both rounds will be aggregated to select the top four teams from the four divisions to advance to the Final Round, which will be judged by executives and experts from various industries, including Bluebik Group PCL and leading global business consulting firms.

For the first time in 10 years, CIBCC 2024 welcomes participants to Chulalongkorn University, Thailand’s 1st ranked university, and allows Thai students and external parties to participate in the CIBCC 2024 Opening Ceremony to exchange business knowledge and meet global participants in the Chulalongkorn International Business Case Competition 2024 (CIBCC 2024).
