Thai Pharmaceutical Industry Boosted at 'CPHI South East Asia 2024'

Informa Markets supports Thailand’s goal to become a medical hub.

CPHI South East Asia 2024, a trade exhibition and conference platform for the pharmaceutical industry in Southeast Asia organised by Informa Markets, will be held in parallel with Medlab Asia & Asia Health 2024 from 10-12 July 2024 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center, Bangkok, Thailand.

The combined events will be held under the “International Healthcare Week” banner, aiming to support Thailand’s strategic goal to become the medical hub of ASEAN. This national strategy enhances competitiveness and generates income to strengthen Thailand’s economy.

Showcasing leading products, technology, and innovations in Thailand’s medical, medical labs, and pharmaceutical industries, the events are expected to attract over 400 brands worldwide across 10 business sectors. Additionally, over 60 conference topics will provide participants with greater business opportunities.

Mr. Manu Leopairote, Chairman of Informa Markets Thailand, disclosed that the event is held under the concept “International Healthcare Week,” combining three major events – CPHI South East Asia 2024, Medlab Asia 2024, and Asia Health 2024. These events focus on professionals in the pharmaceutical products and services, medical lab, medical equipment, and healthcare solutions industries, as well as the pharmaceutical value chain.

Ms. Rungphech Chitanuwat, Regional Portfolio Director – ASEAN, Informa Markets and Country General Manager – Philippines, confirms the company’s readiness for CPHI South East Asia 2024, Asia’s leading pharmaceutical technology and innovation exhibition. The event aims to create new opportunities and improve the Thai pharmaceutical industry, fostering pharmaceutical security to position Thailand as ASEAN’s largest and fastest-growing medical hub.

“While the Thai pharmaceutical industry depends mostly on imports, there is a huge export opportunity for Thai producers. This year’s exhibition focuses on promoting producers’ potential and creating new business opportunities. CPHI South East Asia 2024 is the only event that brings together reliable producers, high-standard products and solutions, and advanced production innovations,” said Rungphech.

Highlights of the event include over 400 brands from 50 countries, such as the Philippines, Myanmar, Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam, and Cambodia. The event will also showcase healthcare and medical innovations from 10 related industry profiles, including reactants, medicine, herbal medicine, machinery, packaging, testing equipment, OEM, logistics, warehouses, chemicals, and natural extracts.

CPHI South East Asia 2024 will encourage networking and workshops that promote sustainability in the industry. The event will feature 60 seminars on industry trends and interesting topics, as well as Pharma Quest, a pharmaceutical knowledge competition.

“A highlight of the event is the innovation exhibition from 400 brands worldwide. CPHI South East Asia 2024 will be where visitors get updated on the latest trends in the healthcare system and explore new business opportunities. The event allows visitors to keep abreast of industry trends and seek advice from experts on pharmaceutical product registration procedures in ASEAN countries, such as Malaysia, the Philippines, Vietnam, China, Indonesia, and Thailand. Visitors will also learn about medical equipment procurement, useful for those looking for new business opportunities in ASEAN,” said Rungphech.

The main objective of CPHI South East Asia 2024 is to promote pharmaceutical security, increase accessibility to high-quality pharmaceutical products, and elevate the Thai pharmaceutical industry as the healthcare and medical hub of ASEAN. Currently, 70% of medical products in Thailand are imported, while the remaining 30% are locally produced. This presents a growth opportunity for Thai manufacturers as OEMs and producers for export.

Although medical and pharmaceutical producers face new challenges in today’s changing business landscape, they also enjoy great opportunities presented by the changing population structure and the development of an ageing society. Currently, the ageing population grows by 7.5% per year and is constantly expanding. Accordingly, the number of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) patients is also increasing. These are the two factors driving higher demand for high-quality medicines. IQVIA’s market research shows that the Thai pharmaceutical market value is as significant as 180 billion baht, with an average annual growth rate of 11%.

Rungphech added that CPHI South East Asia 2024 joined forces with Medlab Asia & Asia Health 2024. The event will feature exhibitions of upstream, mid-stream, and downstream products and technology, along with seminars and meetings related to pharmaceutical manufacturing, medical equipment, and lab industries. These seminars and meetings will be packed with updated trends, knowledge, advanced technology information, and new business opportunities.

Held from 10-12 July 2024 at Hall 1-3, QSNCC, Bangkok, the event expects to draw over 8,000 visitors. Those interested can register to visit the event at www.cphi.com/sea.
