Thailand commended for exemplary progress on Sustainable Development Goals, says Interior Ministry.

The United Nations (UN) praises Thailand for its success in achieving the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy (SEP) for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), according to Interior Ministry Permanent Secretary Suttipong Juljarern. Mr. Suttipong recently mentioned this success as well as the success in his Change for Good policy on the second anniversary of Thailand’s agreement with the UN in 2022 to pursue the SDGs. He said the UN praises Thailand as a model for the world because the country has made real progress in the pursuit since the agreement was made. Mr. Suttipong attributed the achievement to Thailand’s administrative structure, where the government assigns each ministry according to its authority. Each ministry accepts the Interior Ministry as the “chief officer” in this mission due to its responsibility for developing the country and awareness of provincial issues. The Interior Ministry has addressed various concerns as part of the SDGs, such as waste management, environment, poverty, debts, sustainable villages, food security, equal access to public services, promotion of education, clean drinking water, electricity, convenient transport and Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya’s Sustainable Fashion policy promoting naturally dyed clothing. Mr. Suttipong highlighted that all SDG-related achievements are digitally stored in the ministry’s MOI War Room for other agencies to study.

“Have we been successful? I’d say we have. People in society accept this fact. We have clear goals in what we do, especially when we have accepted the Sustainable Village royal project”, he said. “But the satisfaction in our own achievements will keep us moving forward, improving, and helping people even more.”

The SDGs, approved by the UN’s 193 member states on September 25, 2015, are a set of global-scale development goals to be achieved between 2016 and 2030. The 17 SDGs include No Poverty; Zero Hunger; Good Health and Well-Being; Quality Education; Gender Equality; Clean Water and Sanitation; Affordable and Clean Energy; Decent Work and Economic Growth; Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure; Reduced Inequalities; Sustainable Cities and Communities; Responsible Consumption and Production; Climate Action; Life below Water; Life on Land; Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions; and Partnerships for The Goals.

People in society accept this fact. But the satisfaction in our own achievements will keep us moving forward, improving, and helping people even more.
