The Cartoon Network Amazone Water Park in Chon Buri is officially open after a soft launch at the end of July.

The billion-baht-project is a licensed agreement between Amazon Falls, the park owner and developer, and Turner International Asia Pacific, operator of Cartoon Network.

"We made a decision from day one that this park would be a 'daycation' destination and an attraction like no other in Thailand or in Asia. Our fans can meet and greet with their favourite cartoon characters such as the Powerpuff Girls and Ben 10 and Adventure Time every day," said Liakat Dhanji, chairman of Amazon Falls. The park features 30 water rides and slides such as wave pools, speed-racing slides and family raft rides in its six themed zones, including Surf Arena, Riptide Rapid and Mega Wave. There are also live Cartoon Network entertainment shows and mascot meet and greets.

"With the opening of the park, Thailand becomes a model market for our kids brands with Cartoon Network enjoying double digit audience growth on the TrueVision platform," said Turner International Asia Pacific president Ricky Ow. Boomerang, for example, is the number one CabSat TV kids channel in the market place, while the action Toonami has had strong appeal among boys, he noted.

The project is expected to attract 1,000 visitors per day. The water theme park is on a 35 rai plot of land in Bang Saray district, about 20km from Pattaya. It is open daily, 10am to 6pm. The one-day ticket costs 1,290 baht for adults and 890 baht for children, students below the age of 21 and senior citizens above the age of 65. For non-Thai residents, tickets are 1,590 baht for adult and 1,190 baht for a child, student and senior citizens.

European heritage map

The European Heritage map is available to highlight 60 sites in Bangkok and five more sites in Ayutthaya.

The map is a joint initiative of the nine European embassies in the Kingdom, including the embassies of Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal and the United Kingdom and supported by European Union National Institutes for Culture (Eunic) Thailand, the common framework for the promotion of European culture and European-Thai cultural dialogue and exchange.

The aim is to promote the centuries-long relationship between Europe and Thailand. The map has segmented the attractions in to six major zones such as Phra Nakhon, Dusit and Yaowarat. Under each area is the list of the European heritage sites such as Chakri Maha Prasat in the Grand Palace, Hua Lamphong Railway station and Santa Cruz Church. Each spot also shows the attraction picture and description for easy navigation. The map is available for free at 21 places in Bangkok such as Bangkok National Museum, Museum Siam and Thailand Creative and Design Centre, two sites in Ayutthaya at Ban Hollanda and the Tourism Authority of Thailand office, British Council in Chiang Mai and at the nine embassies in Bangkok.
