Former ambassador Poldej Worachat set himself the daily task of creating sketches of a Thai elephant being poorly cared for in Sri Lanka, and to continue until it is returned to Thailand. The elephant, Sak Surin, is now due back on July 2, and by then the former Thai envoy to Sri Lanka will have a fine collection of 66 drawings. Sak Surin is one of two elephants sent to Sri Lanka for breeding and ceremonial appearances 22 years ago. However, they were not well cared for and became sick. Sak Surin has a paralysed leg. A request was subsequently made for the elephant to be returned to Thailand. (Video: Jetjaras Na Ranong and Saritdet Marukatat)
