Infofed gets venture capital

The e-sports and virtual reality startup Infofed has received funding from the Singaporean venture capital firm KK Fund and EventPop, an event marketing agency, for an undisclosed amount.

Infofed designs virtual reality and augmented reality programs to enhance viewer experience when watching e-sports. It also promotes e-sports events in Southeast Asia and invested 50 million baht last year in an e-sports arena in Bangkok.

The company plans to organise the University E-Sports Championship (UEC) Season 2 as an e-sports league in Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam and Thailand after the first season of UEC launched in Thailand in January.

Infofed aims to increase revenue by 200% in 2019.

Jirayod Theppipit, chief executive of Infofed, said KK Fund was interested in his company because it saw the potential for rapid growth in e-sports in Southeast Asia and how the industry drives growth in other sectors such as advertising, gaming hardware and IT.

Mr Jirayod said EventPop invested as a way to reach customers 15-30 years old who see e-sports as entertainment with legitimacy equal to traditional sports.

Infofed also plans to launch eArena, an online e-sports competition platform that will serve to organise competitions. Players from all over the world will be able to compete on the platform.

The company is confident the development of eArena will drive the growth of e-sports throughout Southeast Asia.
