Celebrate 'A Night At The Opera' at Mahidol's Salaya campus

The drama and passion of the opera will come to Prince Mahidol Hall of Mahidol University, Salaya campus, this weekend as maestro Alfonso Scarano leads the Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra in a programme of favourites from some of the world's most beloved opera composers.

"A Night At The Opera" concert will take place on Friday at 7pm and Saturday at 4pm. It will take the audiences to experience Giuseppe Verdi's wonderful gifts for writing simple yet lovely melodies and lush instrumental overtures in selections from his operas Aïda, Nabucco and I Vespri Siciliani.

Also feel the vivid realism and gorgeous sounds of Giacomo Puccini's music in selections from his operas Madama Butterfly, Turandot, Manon Lescaut and Gianni Schicchi.Beautiful selections from operas by Richard Wagner, Vincenzo Bellini, Gaetano Donizetti and Antonín Dvorák will round out this captivating programme, with melodies that will stick with the audiences long after the sound fades.

Set to join the orchestra on both shows will be three talented young vocal soloists -- Duangamorn Fu (soprano), Pijarin Wiriyasakdakul (soprano) and Waku Nakazawa (tenor) -- and the powerful Thailand Phil Choir led by Rit Subsomboon.

Both Duangamorn and Pijarin are studying for a master's degree in vocal performance at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna in Austria while the Tokyo-born Waku earned a master's degree in opera and music theatre and a master's degree of lied singing and oratorio from the Mozarteum University Salzburg, Austria.
