Winter Season Culinary Treats

Award-winning Japanese restaurant Yamazato celebrates the winter with special Gozen lunch platters and Kaiseki dinner that are sure to warm the heart. In addition to succulent sashimi and a soup of crabmeat dumpling and shimeji mushroom, the first Gozen lunch platter includes a starter of five-coloured vinegared vegetables with shrimp and smoked duck with egg yolk vinegar. The star of the second platter is a dish of grilled amberjack with canola white sauce, dried miso and shrimp omelet.

The Kaiseki dinner starts with an amuse bouche of fresh yuba with salmon roe, okra and starchy soy sauce and moves on to a starter of herring roe, crabmeat, eggplant and maitake mushroom; a soup of monkfish liver dumpling and mushroom with a hint of yuzu; a sashimi selection of tuna, yellowtail, torched scallop and sweet shrimp; and a grilled dish of Spanish mackerel with yuzu. A simmered dish of salmon with sake lees, turnip, carrot, leek and canola flower is followed by a selection of tempura before hot vermicelli noodles with cod roe and shimeji mushrooms and finally a dessert of sweet red bean soup with chestnut and simmered kombu kelp round off a delightful meal.

Winter Gozen lunch and Kaiseki dinner are available from 7 - 27 January 2019, lunch 11.30am-2.30pm, dinner 6pm-10.30pm, at Yamazato Restaurant. Priced at B1,400++ for Gozen lunch and B4,700++ for Kaiseki dinner.
