Uniqlo's LifeWear concept is based on Japanese values of simplicity, quality and longevity.

The brand's ability to give a new lease of life to apparel was previously demonstrated during the All-Product Recycling project -- introduced in 2006 -- in which used clothing collected from customers was donated to refugees and others in need.

As a brand under the Tokyo-based Fast Retailing firm, Uniqlo is committed to providing customers with more sustainable apparel by employing eco-friendly materials and using fewer resources.

The new Re.Uniqlo initiative champions recycling, reuse and reducing. As a result of this commitment, waste, carbon dioxide emissions and resource consumption are all reduced. Moreover, the effort lessens trash going to landfills and thus benefits communities and the environment.

On Monday, the brand locally launched its Recycled Down Jacket as the first item under its Re.Uniqlo banner. The circular sustainability programme was initiated by the Uniqlo U design team at its R&D Center in Paris.

All of the down and feathers in the new product come from 620,000 down jackets collected from customers since September last year.

Priced at 3,490 baht, the jacket comes in brown, dark grey, dark orange and dark green.

From autumn 2020, Uniqlo has also expanded its down recovery activities worldwide.

The implementation of Re.Uniqlo's first phase in Thailand began on Oct 26 when the brand started collecting used men's and women's down jackets at its stores across the country.

Until Dec 15, customers handing in used Uniqlo Down merchandise will receive a discount coupon of 100 baht, which can be used for the purchase of the new down jacket. The collection of pre-worn items will continue after the campaign ends.
