Piaget takes Movement, Gold, Colour and Light to dazzling heights

SOCIAL & LIFESTYLE

Piaget's timepieces are created based on the Arts of Movement, Gold, Colour and Light at two manufactures in La Côte-aux-Fées and Plan-les-Ouates, Switzerland.

The Art of Movement plays a significant role in the new chapter of Limelight Gala, originally designed for the audacious 1960s women.

Characterised by its sensual curves and asymmetrical lugs, the feminine timepiece is now powered by an automatic movement, to attract modern and independent women with a penchant for mechanical watches.

The Limelight Gala 32mm Automatic comes in five variations housed in a white or rose gold case, whose sapphire crystal caseback reveals the calibre 501P manufactured at its historical home in La Côte-aux-Fées, where Piaget was founded in 1874.

In Plan-les-Ouates, on the outskirts of Geneva, its ateliers are dedicated to goldsmithing and jewellery.

The meticulous gemsetting rendered diamonds on the bezel and lugs of the new Limelight Gala watches. The expertise in snow setting of precious stones is shown on the model with a dazzling dial. This technique is particularly complex as the gemsetter has to calculate the position of every single diamond, all of which differ in size.

The maison's Art of Gold shines in renditions with a Milanese mesh bracelet, which recalls those crafted in the 1950s.

The painstaking process starts from a gold bar, which is worked into tiny gold threads that are twisted, weaved and squeezed by hand, one by one, taking the artisans over 35 hours to complete.

The supple bracelet is perfectly integrated into the case, giving the impression that it is a natural extension of the asymmetrical lugs.

Instead of the gold bracelet, an alligator strap is matched with the two other versions and the model with the sparkling snow-set dial.
