Art lovers in Thailand are invited to witness outstanding works by a prominent pop artist from China during "Ecstasy: Li Bangyao Solo Exhibition", which will take place at Tang Contemporary Art from tomorrow to March 13.

A professor of fine arts at South China Normal University in Guangzhou, Li Bangyao is reputed for his symbolic study of objects in his artworks where he focuses on their structural systems.

Through the refinement of specific symbols for social development and everyday life, he deconstructs and encodes the personal aesthetics, collective memories and social issues symbolised by objects in a visual language characterised by flat forms and clear outlines.

The exhibition will feature many of his famous works from five series created during the past 13 years. They include the "Origin Of The Species" series that features everyday consumer objects on bright monochrome backgrounds and the "Theory Of Evolution" series that highlights the changes in the mass consumer landscape as China modernised.

His "Ecstasy" series depicts the corners of interior scenes with the most consumer symbolism, objects such as dressing tables, fashion magazines and make-up bags are placed in the images one by one.

In contrast to his past two-dimensional works, his "Personal Manual" installations make use of digital monochrome etching on aluminium to create a sense of three-dimensionality. The artist further removes the functional and use value of objects to accentuate their aesthetic and cultural significance.

Also expect to see the most recent pieces from his "Indoors" series.

Tang Contemporary Art is located on the 2nd floor of River City Bangkok, Charoen Krung 24 and opens Tuesday to Saturday from 11am to 7pm.
