Alliance Francaise Bangkok will make this Saturday a wonderful break for children and families by presenting two kids movies at 2pm and 4.30pm.

The first is Fahim, The Little Chess Prince, a family comedy drama directed by Pierre François-Martin Laval. It centres around an eight-year-old chess prodigy who arrives in Paris with his father after being forced to flee his native Bangladesh.

Refused asylum as illegal immigrants, they spiral downwards into homelessness and desperation. By a stroke of luck, the boy is introduced to one of France's top chess coaches, Sylvain, who tutors him and gives him a sense of purpose. His struggles on the chessboard mirror both his victories and his crushing defeats in his battle for a normal life.

Before the screening, Sébastien Ferrand of the Happy Pawn Chess Club will talk about his passion for chess. He will also introduce the new chess club of Alliance Française.

Audiences are also advised to download the Kahoot application before the screening to answer a quiz and win a Lego chess board game and more.

The second movie is Ernest Et Célestine En Hiver, (Ernest And Celestine In Winter), a 45-minute animation directed by Julien Chheng and Jean-Christophe Roger.

Ernest is a big bear from Charabie. He likes playing music and eating marmalade. He lives with Celestine, a little orphan mouse, and they share his house.

When the first snowflakes start to fall, they need to prepare for Ernest's hibernation. They must take care of Bibi, their wild goose, who will fly away before the big winter, prepare cakes for Ernest and go to the mice's ball to celebrate the first day of winter.

Both films are in French with English subtitles. Tickets cost 120 baht (60 baht for members and students). Alliance Francaise is on Witthayu Road.
