To cater to dim sum aficionados across Bangkok, Centara Grand at CentralWorld now offers an affordable collection of 43 dim sum delicacies designed for takeaway and home delivery.

Prepared by Chinese cuisine chefs from the hotel's Dynasty Cantonese restaurant and Ventisi international restaurant, the selection showcases a manifold of flavours from various culinary regions in China as well as the chefs' ingenious formulations.

Customers can expect to find anything from a typical steamed dumpling to imaginative deep-fried spring rolls. Options of a protein centrepiece may range from fresh prawns, salmon and snow fish to Alaskan scallops, crab claws and chicken feet.

There are also steamed seafood, barbecued meat and poultry, rice and noodle dishes as well as soups and desserts.

The dim sum can be ordered a la carte with prices ranging from 65 baht to 350 baht per item. Or you may pick any 10 dishes for 688 baht; 15 dishes for 999 baht; and 20 dishes for 1,288 baht. This way you can save up to 200% on a meal.

For fans of a classic dim sum, steamed hakao shrimp dumplings (120 baht); steamed siew mai pork dumpling with shrimp roe, my most favourite (75 baht); steamed crabmeat dumplings with shimeji mushroom (90 baht); and steamed rice noodle rolls with prawn filling (65 baht) promise to satisfy your cravings.

More fanciful seafood options that offer as much a soothing mouthfeel are steamed Australian scallops with crabmeat sauce (90 baht); steamed salmon rolls with enoki mushrooms (90 baht); steamed river prawns with bamboo pith (90 baht); steamed snow fish rolls in soya sauce (90 baht); and seaweed rolls with minced prawn and white jelly fungus (75 baht).

But if you are in for a crispy treat, I recommend the very fluffy deep-fried mashed taro with shrimp (75 baht); deep-fried snow fish spring rolls (90 baht); deep-fried bean curd with prawn (75 baht); and deep-fried duck spring roll with sweet hoisin sauce (80 baht).

A selection of salapao (steamed bun) features fillings such as minced pork (65 baht); sweet barbecue pork (100 baht); and custard cream (85 baht).

Three choices of soup on offer include double-boiled black mushrooms with bamboo pith in a clear soup (220 baht); Sichuan-style hot and sour soup (330 baht); and fresh crabmeat and corn soup (280 baht).

Of the noodle and rice repertoire that lists the likes of wok-fried Chinese noodles with crabmeat (290 baht); fried rice vermicelli Singaporean style (350 baht); Yang Chow-style fried rice with barbecue pork and prawn (320 baht); the best I found was wok-fried flat noodles with sliced beef Hong Kong style (290 baht).
