Two years since their last album was released, the quirky indie pop group Soft Pine has now returned with their third full-length album titled Brainwreck. They are inviting fans to join the Soft Pine "Brainwreck" Album Launch Party on Nov 3 at Lido Connect, with special opening acts including Wadfah and Chucky Factory Land.
The pandemic was a time when many experienced a lot of unfamiliarities and just like everybody else, each member of Soft Pine -- guitarist Viking, singer and guitarist X, and drummer Boom were also forced to adjust their lifestyles as the crisis caused tour and recording sessions to come to a halt. Feeling depressed during home isolation, Soft Pine slowly began writing new tunes influenced by these overwhelming feelings, and how they coped with everything. The result was 10 tracks for Brainwreck, representing their state of mind during these hard times, released on Sundae Records.
Brainwreck was recorded in their home studio using gear collected over the years for production. They experimented with recording methods such as mic-up or choosing analogue processes like using an eight-track tape recorder to master the songs to make them sound warmer with the help of Folk9 member Boripat. The latest single to be released off Brainwreck is Like A Freak, a laid-back hypnagogic pop tune with a looping drums pattern joined by a trippy bassline and off-key guitar riffs.
