For the first time in Southeast Asia and Thailand, work by world-renowned street artist Banksy is being displayed in an exhibition titled "The Art Of Banksy: Without Limits" which takes place at Moca Bangkok on Kamphaeng Phet 6 Road from now until Dec 31.
The exhibition brings art pieces acquired from collectors and verified by Pest Control, the handling service on behalf of Banksy and the only official body that can authenticate a Banksy piece. The exhibition is being held through a partnership between King Power, Moca Bangkok and Plan B Media.
An anonymous England-based street artist and political activist, Banksy is famous for his satirical art that criticises capitalism, consumerism, wars and other social subjects. He kicked off his career in the 1990s and has managed to keep his identity under wraps. Combining dark humour with graffiti, his stencil-style works appear publicly on streets, walls and bridges all around the world.
Banksy's documentary film Exit Through The Gift Shop made its debut at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival, and in 2011, the artist was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature for the film.
The exhibition at Moca Bangkok features more than 150 Banksy artworks in various forms including certified originals, prints, photos, lithographs, sculptures, murals and video mapping installations. Also on display is a video installation telling the life and work of Banksy.
"The Art Of Banksy: Without Limits" exhibition has travelled to and created a huge phenomenon among art aficionados in 18 cities around the world including Istanbul, Bucharest, Riyadh, Warsaw, Miami and Mexico City.
Proceeds from the exhibition will fund Louise Michel, an independent lifeboat that patrols the Mediterranean for refugees in distress, that Banksy has generously supported.
