There's excited conversation among jazz lovers around the upcoming "Thailand International Jazz Conference (TIJC) 2023" at the College of Music, Mahidol University, Salaya campus. The event takes place Friday to Sunday, daily from 10am to 11pm.

Hailed as the country's preeminent jazz event, TIJC gathers many world-renowned artists. This year's edition comprises an extensive programme highlighting jazz from Europe with support by the French, Germany, Austrian and Italian embassies.

Also taking part in the event will be artists from America and big bands from Asia and Thailand. Among world-class artists in the line-up are Javon Jackson, Delfeayo Marsalis, Emmet Cohen Trio, Laurent de Wilde Trio and Sketchbook Quartet.

Jazz musicians of all ages, nationalities and styles will participate in the "TIJC Solo Competition 2023" and the "TIJC Jazz Band Competition 2023", the latter a first for TIJC. Both competitions will provide a learning experience that cannot be found elsewhere, and highly regarded artists will be on the judging panel.

Also expect to see instrumentation rarely heard in jazz, such as classical violin, from artists such as Luca Ciarla and Sandro Roy. Jazz piano trio Laurent de Wilde likewise will bring each member's talents to the fore.

Another highlight will be "Music 101 Feat. Delfeayo Marsalis & Javon Jackson" which will be presented as a closing concert on Sunday at 10pm. For this show, American jazz tenor saxophonist Jackson will perform the song that he wrote as a tribute to his favourite saxophonist Sonny Rollins.

Thai artists participating in the event include Asia7 and Ekaphan "Pure" Wanasut, winner of The Voice All Star.

More than 40 big and small bands from Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia will perform at the Oval Stage, with free admission on all three days.

A three-day pass to the event costs 3,000 baht (2,400 baht for students and Music Lover Card holders) and can be purchased from ticketmelon.com.
