A limited number of rarely seen pianos are showcased alongside exquisite Persian carpets for the very first time at the RCB Artery, 1st floor of River City Bangkok, Charoen Krung 24, until April 23.

Titled "Echoes Of The Past: An Exhibition Of Antique Pianos And Persian Carpets", the show features six vintage pianos each more than a century old.

Time has not dulled the glamour and beauty of these elegant musical instruments; rather, age has burnished their patina of heritage and gentility.

Comporting with a dignity and authority befitting its Victorian pedigree, the Custom Made Steinway & Sons Concert Grand Piano, made in 1872, is a feat of unparalleled craftsmanship, finished in hand-carved walnut wood.

Built three years later by the very same family was the Victorian-era Steinway & Sons Rococo Grand Piano distinctive for its ethereal engraved details, while supple curves draw the eye and polished veneer ripples like silk in the light.

Made in 1929 and originally designed for a child's playroom, the Custom Painted Marionette Mini-Grand Piano gracefully intertwines state-of-the-art technology with hand-painted, Asian-style finishings.

The three other instruments on view are Wm KNABE & Co Louis XV Grand Piano; Kranich & Bach Baby Grand Piano; and Everett Louis XVI Style Baby Grand Piano.

The show is likewise a rare chance to see alongside the piano an object of equivalent craftsmanship and majesty -- Persian carpets -- the 14 hand- woven instances here belonging to renowned collector Viktor Bol liger.

Treasures of an ancient tradition of rug-weaving passed down through generations, these priceless works of art embody a rich artistic and cultural heritage.

Visitors will also enjoy a piano performance by Assoc Prof Eri Nakagawa and her students every Saturday at 4.30pm.
