Mango Art Festival returns with focus on diversity and discovery

The third edition of the Mango Art Festival will bring together diversity in the Thai art scene to the same venue. Under the theme of "Rise", the six-day event at River City Bangkok, from May 2-7, aims to help launch careers of new-face artists. Besides local artists, art aficionados can also expect foreign artists and galleries, as well as brands to show that art transcends boundaries.

The diversity goal corresponds with the festival's name as Thai mangoes come in various colours, shapes and types, thus, the art festival features artists who employ different disciplines, techniques and mediums in their works. Of course, mango is also a nod to Bangkok's nickname Big Mango.

Its inaugural edition took place at Lhong 1919 in 2021 and its theme changes every year. While the previous edition focused on the relationship between environmental problems, technology and human potential, this year's theme can be simply summed up as "Rise" with a focus on new beginnings and discoveries like the cycle of sunrise to sunset. Thus, it provides opportunities for art fans to discover new and independent artists.

The festival is divided into self-explanatory four zones — Gallery, Independent Artists, Product Design and Art & Craft — and focuses on art, design and performance and music.

To sum up the upcoming art fest in numbers, you can expect 21 galleries in Thailand and from abroad, 75 independent artists, 14 brands showcasing product design, 19 handicraft booths and 16 performances.

Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau will be there to help match artists with galleries and brands for possible collaborations. Artists can also learn about reliable platforms that can make their works known online and sell them. There will also be an LGBTQ-themed exhibition and talks from art experts. Political parties will also express their creative economy policies in time for the general election on May 14.
