Punching up its sustainable footwear, Melissa has collaborated with Marc Jacobs for a capsule collection.
The Brazilian brand had previously partnered with renowned fashion designers such as Jean Paul Gaultier, Karl Lagerfeld and Vivienne Westwood as well as Dutch label Viktor & Rolf and Paris-based Y/PROJECT.
Launched in 1979, Melissa disrupted the industry by transforming plastic into an innovative material for making its iconic jelly shoes.
The proprietary Melflex is a type of PVC that is 100% recyclable, flexible, resistant and comfortable.
Another sustainable material, biobased EVA partially derived from sugar cane has at least 25% plant-based content certified by the USDA.
This environmentally friendly and light biomaterial makes shoes comfortable for everyday wear.
The Melissa x Marc Jacobs collection features the Becky Platform Slide made of Melflex and biobased EVA, which gives the chunky silhouette a lightweight feel. The sole's interior is filled with ultralight PU, and the insole is covered with fabric made from recycled PET bottles.
Melissa Becky + Marc Jacobs
Available in off-white or black, the Becky model boasts an embossed Marc Jacobs monogram on the 5cm platform.
Made from biobased EVA, Melissa Clog + Marc Jacobs also features a chunky platform sole with the fashion house's signature.
The clog is available in silver as well as colours inspired by the palette for Marc Jacob's ready-to-wear collection.
In the silver-coloured model, the water-based ink does not contain volatile organic compounds that contribute to air pollution.
Melissa's sustainable practices further include using waste materials that would be discarded in a standard production process, and recycled paper and water-based glue for packaging.
