A. Lange & Söhne's celebrates its roots through the festive campaign featuring the 1815 Annual Calendar and the Lange 1.

"During the holiday season, many people take the time to reflect and ask themselves, what are my origins and where am I heading? Our aspiration is to never stand still. But to proceed in the right direction, it is sometimes necessary to briefly pause and consider," said CEO Wilhelm Schmid.

The name of the first model pays tribute to founder Ferdinand Adolph Lange, who was born in 1815. At the age of 30, he set up a workshop in Glashütte, Saxony, and established precision horology in Germany.

The 1815 Annual Calendar features an argenté-coloured dial with an axially symmetric configuration of three auxiliary dials, while hands make the displays for the date, day of the week and month easy to read.

Its calendar mechanism automatically recognises which months have 30 and 31 days. One adjustment is required for the transition from the last day of February to the first day of March. Accurate to 122.6 years, the moon-phase display tracks the orbit of the celestial body across the star-studded sky.

"The 1815 Annual Calendar is emblematic of our watchmaking traditions while the Lange 1 is a symbol of a new beginning that still sets our course today," said Schmid.

The launch of the Lange 1 in 1994 came four years after the company's rebirth, following the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Traditional elements of Saxon watchmaking such as three-quarter plate and screwed gold chatons were incorporated into the inaugural model. The design combines an an off-centre dial configuration with an outsize date inspired by the Five-Minute Clock in Dresden Semper Opera.

A manually-wound movement assures that the advancing outsize date display switches promptly at midnight.

Both the 1815 Annual Calendar and the Lange 1 shine in resplendent pink gold to express the spirit of the holiday season.
