Rock singer Seksan Sookpimay, aka Sek Loso, was sentenced to 2½ years in jail for resisting arrest, threatening police with a gun and drug abuse after his claim of suffering bipolar disorder was rejected.

The Min Buri court in Bangkok handed down the sentence on Thursday for the offences taking place at his home in Bang Khen district of Bangkok on Dec 31, 2017.

On that day, the 44-year-old singer, carrying a 9mm pistol, threatened to shoot police who were entering his house with a search warrant to arrest him. After the arrest, he was tested positive for using methamphetamine.

He was sentenced to six months each for drug abuse and illegal firearm possession and one year and six months for resisting the arrest with a gun. He was later granted bail against surety bonds worth 500,000 baht.

Police came to his house on that day to take him into custody after he fired nine shots into the air and one into the ground during a visit to a temple in Nakhon Si Thammarat province early on Dec 29, 2017.

For the shooting, the Nakhon Si Thammarat provincial court already sentenced him in March to five days in jail and fined him 5,000 baht. The case is in the appeal process.

The Min Buri court also on Thursday revoked the suspension of an earlier jail term of one year and three months for Sek's physical assault on his ex-wife's close friend, adding it to the 2½-year jail term.

The court dismissed Sek's claim that he suffered bipolar disorder, citing that he was well aware of right and wrong while communicating with officials.

Sek arrived at the court with his wife to hear the ruling on Thursday. He was released on bail of 500,000 baht.
