NARATHIWAT: A police deputy chief investigator was shot dead while tending to his fighting cocks in Sungai Padi district on Wednesday morning. Insurgents were blamed.

Police called to the scene about 8.25am found Pol Capt Wutthisak Poolsawat lying dead under a tree behind the house of his mother-in-law, Faheeya Pasae, in tambon Sakor.

Investigators said Pol Capt Wutthisak was deputy investigation chief at Sakor police station. He left the police residence compound every morning on his motorcycle and went to Mrs Faheeya’s house, where he raised and trained fighting cocks.

On Wednesday morning, he went there as usual. He parked his bike out front and went to his rooster coops behind the house. Three gunmen wearing black clothes had entered the yard through a neighbouring garden, shot him down and then fled.

Pol Capt Wutthisak was hit in the head, body and chest. Five spent M16 cartridges were found in the yard.

Pol Lt Col Charoon Chaikitporn, inspector at Sakor police station, said the slain officer had no conflict with anyone. He blamed insurgents wanting to cause unrest.
