Manchester United is the favoured English Premier League football team among Thai football fans, followed by Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea, according to the result of a survey by the National Institute for Development Administration, or Nida Poll.
The poll was conducted between July 23 and 28 on 4,117 people of various levels of education and occupations throughout the country.
Asked whether they follow the EPL, most of the respondents, 77.39%, said "no" and 22.61% "yes".
Of the EPL followers, 72.61% said they occasionally watch EPL football and 27.39% said they constantly follow it.
Asked which is their favourite team for the 2016-2017 season, most of them, 31.26%, said they supported Manchester United; 24.6% Liverpool, 10.2% Arsenal, 7.3% Chelsea, 7.2% Leicester City; 3.33% Manchester City; 0.96% other teams; and 15.15% have no particular favourite teams.
For the past three seasons, the four favourite teams for Thai fans have been Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea, while last season's EPL champion Leicester City comes fifth.
As for the Toyota Thai League football, most popular to Thai football fans is SCG Muangthong United with 27.9%, followed by Buriram United 25.41%; 4.89% for Cholburi FC; 2.23% for Suphan Buru FC; and1.97% for Nakhon Ratchasima Mazda FC.
During the past three years, Thai football fans have been more interested the Toyota Thai League than the English Premier League.
