Settee claims maiden pro title, ends 7 years of futility

Settee Prakongvech won his maiden professional title at the Singha All Thailand Memorial in Chanthaburi yesterday.

Trailing the leaders by two strokes after round two at the rain-shortened 54-hole tournament, Settee shot a a closing five-under-par 66 to win on 12-under 201 at the par-71 Chatrium Golf Resort Soi Dao.

In his ninth event on the All Thailand Golf Tour this year, Sette finished one shot ahead of second-placed Kosuke Hamamoto (67) and Raththee Sirithanakulsak (66).

Settee took home 300,000 baht and five world ranking points while Kosuke and Raththee got 149,500 baht and 2.5 points.

Landing his first professional title, the Chon Buri native, who fired five birdies in a bogey-free round, was over the moon after his hard work and patience paid off handsomely.

"Since turning pro seven years ago, this is my first win. So I'm definitely happy with this special one," said Settee, who moved up to eighth on the ATGT money list with 594,692 baht.

"I struggled a bit with the rain but tried to keep calm and stuck to my gameplan."

Kim Joo-Hyung of South Korea (65) finished fourth on 10 under while the amateur award went to Tanapat Pichaikool (71), who shared fifth place with Natthapong Niyomchon (63) and Sattaya Supupramai (66) on nine under.

Overnight joint-leader Pavit Tangkamolprasert carded a 72 to share eighth place on eight under with Donlaphatchai Niyomchon (68). Itthipat Buranatanyarat was joint 43rd and remained on top of the money list with 1,107,294 baht after seven events.

The 10th leg of the All Thailand Golf Tour will be the two-million-baht Singha Championship 2019 to be held at Green Valley Country Club, Rayong on Aug 22-25.
