FAT 'ready to dump' VAR

The Football Association of Thailand is ready to ditch the video assistant referee (VAR) system if clubs desire so, FAT president Somyot Poompunmuang said on Tuesday.

There have been complaints about the technology which has been in use in Thai League 1 this season.

In some cases, the system could not perform for the whole game due to poor signal strength.

"Some problems are beyond our control such as poor signal from optical fibres," Somyot said. "We have tried to put everything in control but problems still occur at times."

He said the FAT introduced VAR to the top flight to ensure fairness but it is not forcing clubs to accept it.

"Teams who want us to stop using it can inform the FAT," Somyot said.

"If all clubs don't want it, then we can ditch it immediately. This is up to the clubs to make the decision."

He said Korrawee Pritsananantakul of the league organising committee is looking into the matter.

Hulk ends stint at Shanghai

High-profile Brazilian striker Hulk has confirmed his exit from Shanghai SIPG after four years at the Chinese Super League club ended in reported acrimony and a bust-up with coach Vitor Pereira.

The 34-year-old, whose contract reportedly ends this month, did not feature as SIPG went out of the AFC Champions League at the last 16 stage in Doha on Monday to an Andres Iniesta-inspired Vissel Kobe of Japan.

"Today is the day I say good bye to Shanghai SIPG, a team that made me feel at home," Hulk wrote on China's Weibo social media platform after the defeat. bangkok post/afp
